A new zine series for Calgary’s 2025 election | The Sprawl One for each of the city's 14 wards.

Check it out! We made a series of Calgary election zines. One for each of the city's 14 wards, containing all the councillor candidates for each. Plus a mayoral one—so 15 in all. They'll be going into libraries but let us know if you also want copies to share! www.sprawlcalgary.com/calgary-2025...

Oh. Wait. This is ringing some faint bells for me! So if you did, it may be a case of collective hallucination…

(Or possibly a video by some creator other than Patrick. Hmmmm.)

I never feel more saintly than when I put a pristine copy of a desirable book in someone’s little library box.

Smudge has been waiting patiently in line for almost 30 minutes to ask her question. It will only take a minute of your time. Can you possibly squeeze her in before you leave for lunch?

Star Trek The Next Generation scene. We're in a darkly lit engineering near the warp core. Worf is in uniform and walking alongside the cute lil safety railing. He looks focused and intense. Closed caption reads, "Living among these humans has sucked."

Absolutely this. I’ve been both of these at different times in my life, and the (purchasing, etc.) tradeoffs I have made at those times have differed accordingly.

But as you suggest, rarely-to-never have I not had to worry about either of them. In the spirit of this whole thread, I think I’m… glad?

I am no constitutional scholar, but I can't help but feel that "the President gets to dictate what every university can teach and what every television station should broadcast" is closer to what the founding fathers were worried about when it comes to free speech than trigger warnings on syllabi.

Single panel cartoon in the style of Gary Larson Far side.

Hacker T. Dog, a dog puppet in a flashy shirt, pulls a goofy smile behind a table of 4 crudely made tools as his co-host, Lauren, puts her thumb and forefinger to her nose trying to stifle laughter.

Caption reads "just normal tools."

Hot take (and also as a computer programmer): 12 is better than 16. Sometimes it is useful to be able to quickly multiply/divide by 3, which is easy with 12 but not with 16. The fact that 12 has 2, 3, and 4 as integral divisors is a strong factor (ha!) in favour of its utility as a numerical base.

You’re right that there’s no particularly secure bike parking at the airport. There is a rack in the parkade where I’ve left my bike many times but never more than about 11-12 days at the outside. And I have a pretty heavy-duty locking system. I have also possibly (probably?) been lucky.

Aero Drive doesn’t have dedicated bike infrastructure, but it does have wide shoulders (quite wide in some places) and the traffic is neither super heavy nor super fast.

25.06.2025 05:56 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Short version: go up the Nose Creek Pathway to 64 Ave. Use 64 Ave. to cross Deerfoot (this is the sucky part - there’s a narrow walkway along the south side of the overpass) and continue along the multi-use pathway to Aero Drive. Go up and along Aero Drive around the runway to the terminal area.

I do it all the time, and it’s not _terrible_, as long as you know the best way. Having said that, the best way is not obvious. And the map you showed is not the best way.

(Also getting across the Deerfoot kinda sucks. But it only sucks for about 200m.)
