I am so going to my garage finding it tonight.

Gotta admit: Metroid is so addictive. I can’t put it down now I’ve picked it up « just to see how it still plays nowadays ».

I wonder if Coralie Fargeat played or watched that last boss fight.

Still, I enjoyed the overall experience. It’s linear. Very linear indeed. The story is simple. Many cliches and it doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel. But everything is well executed. And that’s maybe what AAA should do actually. Not take any creative risk but make everything perfectly polished.

The game is so much easier once I found out I was supposed to buy ammunitions. What a joke. And I was fighting the big boss too… and now the game is over. I don’t even know what to think but that I feel stupid. And frustrated. And games should not make players feel stupid.

I literally just realised we can sell stuff in this game… and we are supposed to buy additional ammo and not just find them randomly… seriously.

And boss fight where you have no ammo.. again. This makes me hate the game so much despite so many great things about it.

This is again, an old mechanic from traditional AAA that I really want to see disappearing from games. It doesn’t add anything and it is ridiculously boring.

The boss fights are so bad because it is brainless and punishing for nothing. It is quite obvious that they want the players to move, shoot, relocate, do again until stun, punishing moves, and here we go again. But the limited ammo and the lack of any gap closer move make it so frustrating.

I dislike playing with the short of thumb stick tho. I wish Nintendo let me rebind those keys so I can move using the D-pad. It’s more precise.

I wanted to play Metroid 2: Return of Samus. And since I never played its remake, I tried it on my 3DS. I forgot how much I like this console. That rendering is beautiful and the 3D effect works well. I don’t recall using that feature that often back then, it was a gimmick. But now, it’s bluffing.

The combats are quite basic but again, well executed. I like using that telekinesis power and send all the monsters flying, impale them on those wall spikes. The game is violent, visceral, and spectacular. It delivers what I expect from AAA.

Played more than 7h now and I should be in the last few acts now. Despite that moving platform sequence, the pacing is solid. The story is simple yet well delivered. The execution is great. It is extremely linear but the environment is gorgeous, really detailed, and I have fun walking through it.

It is also so dark that you don’t see anything. And if you die, you redo from the very beginning of that sequence. It is just painful and dull. I hope AAA games stop making those levels. We’ve seen it over and over again. If I want elevator, I’ll just play Elevator Action instead.

Resumed playing it tonight and been going on for a few hours now. Everything was great until that platform scene where you have to clear hordes of monsters while waiting for the platform to stop. It is everything I hate about those games. The combat isn’t interesting, there is nothing new.

The Art of Manga at de Young Museum is well done. I wasn’t expecting so many original panels. If I already knew all the authors, I discovered some pieces I’ve never read or even heard before. I regret there wasn’t a space for Akira Toriyama though. Still, I highly recommend everyone to check it out.

Read The Old Man and the Sea. I can't believe I never read it before and now, I know why it is so popular. What a great book. I was glued to every word from the first one and I felt every bit of the fisherman's struggle through those pages. Just like the boy, I cried. What a beautiful story.

But she refuses to let me so. And I understand why. I accept it. Because if I start « making it better » or « more convenient », eventually, it will be meaningless. But how do I teach it to my best best friend’s 8 yo? How do one tell another one that suffering is beautiful and important?

But one can only accept those limitations if one understands them, and it can only be if one has lived or experienced the cycle without. My leather craft professor forces me to do everything by hand, with barely any tool. I can find so many ways already to make my pricking more accurate for example.

It also makes me think of that quote « given the opportunity, players will always maximise the fun out of the game ». I don’t really know how to solve it because I find myself going through this stupid cycle again and again. And that’s why it’s important to be limited.

Several days after reading it, I’m still thinking about this book. The crucial idea is that pain is what truly defines meaning yet as a society, we try as much as possible to eliminate all of it. The last pages of the book speak well of this paradox that we are all facing everyday.

Also watched Y2K on the plane. I was looking for a « nanar » and I ended up with a « navet ». It’s been a while I couldn’t even finish a film because how bad it is.

Watched Materialists (Celing Song) on the plane and I’m so glad I’ve lived, dated, and found the love of my life before all those dating apps.
