Oh totally, and thanks for your patience with a rando reply obliviously stating the obvious

And that it's a relative term on a scale that keeps sliding all over the dang place

contempt for "normies" of any type is a huge red flag imo; the term means so many different things to different people that saying it with contempt in any context just makes someone appear reflexively and destructively snobby

It feels a bit like the old saw about nonprofits: "if there's no salaries then the only currency is ego" or something like that. That's as close as I get anyway, as an ex-local chapter president of a national nonprofit, whose predecessor often reflexively pulled the "do you know who I am" card.

hot take: the "awake" vs "asleep" metaphor has always been steaming hot garbage because it provides yet another way for people to be smug jerks to each other

I had to delete the thing; it was getting out of control.

Well, relatively and on a very small scale. But still.

It's also a good (and disappointing) reminder that even vaguely-political posts will get strange random traction. While I do follow politics here, I don't like to post about politics here much (and ideally I'll do it less if I can re-curb my reply-guy impulse). bsky.app/profile/keir...

Things have been up-down-around-and-through, as I'm sure they have for everyone else.

I can see why large accountsβ€”or even medium-sized onesβ€”all eventually tend to go insane.

Alsoβ€”and perhaps unsurprisinglyβ€”if anything will curtail my reply-guy impulse, it's being reply-guyed for some throwaway dumb post.

One thing about dumping Bluesky from your phone is that if you get even minor traction on a post during the night, you'll log in to way more notifications than usual, which can make you feel instantly, claustrophobically unsettled.

And by "you" I of course mean "me."

(I biked past batting practice at Ventura Collegeβ€”home of the Pirates, who were hosting Comptonβ€”earlier this week but of course that doesn't count; it was like when I visited Fenway circa October 2005 but the Sox weren't in the playoffs)

Attended my first little-league age travel-ball game of the year. I love when teams get creative with their names; today's contestants were "Showcase" vs. "The Fury". Showcase triumphed 8-1.

Oh and it was 83 dang degrees in Camarillo at the end of January.

Never mind the jobs you had, tell me five classes you took in college:

Urban Geography
Milton/Paradise Lost
History of Jazz
Techno-Gothic Literature
Music and Popular Culture

Very on-brand tbh. My actual jobs in college were at the student newspaper and the campus bookstore text desk.

Social media makes everything fandom and I think that's what I've come to most hate about it

I agree and I think it's because some people either don't have imagination or don't value it, which fosters mocking fear and loathing against those of us who do

2000s band-guy Keir and 2010s design-guy Keir will surely never beat the "tryhard ex-gifted kid" allegations

Or rather I don't feel compelled to constantly advertise that *any more*, because at too many points in the past I certainly did. I deleted Facebook and Twitter to delete all that posturing more than any other "real" reason. Might eventually do that for Instagram too.

29.01.2026 16:31 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

But the whole concept feels needlessly performative to me anyway. I just want to make sure I'm less intentionally harmful than I may have been in the past, but I don't feel compelled to constantly advertise that.

None of us are getting into The Good Place, folks.

The list of musicians is even shorter. I was never a huge MJ fan but I don't dislike most of what he made pre-1991. Lennon is tougher because he seems to have wanted (and failed) to be a much better person than he actually was. After those guys, ditching, like, Arcade Fire is laughably easy.

I'm not sure I've had a difficult drop, but mine are less "ugh I hate them now, they're cancelled" and more "eh it's not something that I, personally, need or want in my life anymore."

Like I was a Hunter Thompson freak for decades, but I still enjoy lots of his books, unlike say Bret East Ellis.

Ah yes, Scaramucci and the Friedman Units, that wholesome 2060s-era covers band from cruises and county fairs, who bring you all the old-timey hits from the early 21st century
