I can access the pdf files from the newest issue no problem (or the open-access ones at least). Haven't tried any earlier issues though.

Page might have been down temporarily while they updated the submission system? (Just seeing this now, haven't logged in in a while...). Newest issue online is from last September too, which is strange as there should have been a December one?

It was such a pleasure to get out in the field for this story, particularly working with Gavin and seeing the gorgeous Blackfoot territory. His photos are spectacular, go see them.

A horizon scan of biological conservation issues for 2025 We discuss the outcomes of our 16th horizon scan of issues that are novel or represent a considerable step-change and have the potential to substantially affect conservation of biological diversity in the coming decade. From an initial 96 topics, our international panel of 32 scientists and practitioners prioritised 15 issues. Technological advances are prominent, including metal and non-metal organic frameworks, deriving rare earth elements from macroalgae, synthetic gene drives in plants, and low-emission cement. We include new insights into accelerated impacts of changes to Antarctic ice masses and air and water quality. We hope that anticipating and mitigating negative impacts, and making best use of new opportunities related to these issues, will contribute to better outcomes for biological diversity.

Always an interesting read 🧪🌎

What's the most dangerous season for
#caribou
? According to a new study of an Alaskan herd, that season has shifted from early summer to winter/early spring. New in our news section, www.northerncaribou.ca/news

If you are a Canadian ornithologist (or adjacent) and care about museum collections in Canada, I'm looking for a Canadian partner for a small project (nice honours/museum studies project, too!) #ornithology

Does #Tidal allow you to do a year-end summary like Spotify does? Kind of a moot point for me anyway, I use Tidal to check out new albums - 3 or 400 this year, across all genres. My summary would look like 5 different people share my account, lol.

Good stuff! I'm working on compiling wolf harvests now but hope to pivot to wolverines after. Historic (1800s) fur return data from BC to Quebec.

Somewhere, haha. The 1987 one Novak edited, right? I have it on a CD I think, and some chapters as print or pdf. There's a new book on furbearer mgmt now too, in progress and I think it will be entirely open-access.

Tons of #caribou data too. A difficulty with that data would be sorting herds. The post journals could help there, because the ledgers just report numbers. Likely lots of Qamanirjuaq animals in the mix, some Pen Islands, etc.

Currently putting together #wolf data for @ryankbrook.bsky.social and would like to do the same for #wolverine.

Hey #wildlife pals! Anyone working on large-scale (eg Canada) #wolverine abundance and distribution? Or interested in doing so? I could compile a bunch of 1800s #furtrade records for a historical perspective. #historicalecology

Very cool research paper on newspaper archives as a tool for historical ecology research. Online archives have been huge in some work by a colleague on historic whaling in the Cdn Arctic.
