Stargazing vet from the Dark Satanic North. Once hit the stumps from the boundary aged 11, all down hill since then. Was in practice, now harping on about #OneHealth, transboundary infectious disease and whatnot π¬π§π¦πΊπͺπΊ

16.02.2026 22:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The collapse of curiosity driven research has occurred in STEM too. Everything has to be outcomes focused - cure disease, grow better crops, etc. But so much of what humanity has discovered is from "basic" curiosity-driven science. I'm hugely in favor of funding curiosity in every discipline.

another favourite scientific headline, following confirmation of Einstein's general theory of relativity by observations of the 1919 solar eclipse. "Stars not where they seemed or were calculated to be, but nobody need worry" is a beautiful sentiment. i would have that on a t-shirt

In particular, the section on Gillick competence: Assessing Gillick competence β’ Be aware that young people under 16 can give their own consent to vaccination if they are assessed to be Gillick competent. β’ School age immunisation providers should ensure that they a have a policy in place to support school aged immunisation teams in assessing Gillick competence. Include guidance on what action to take when a young person's vaccination preference is different from that of their parents or carers.
What a tit. Over 16s can give their own consent and under 16s can too if they are judged to be competent.

Ask your butcher. Itβs highly variable depending on supply & demand, and for some itβs just not worth the hassle and is priced accordingly. Local to me, a given cut of venison is almost always cheaper than a comparable quality beef equivalent, but I buy direct from the producer.
