If they were running a circular economy they wouldn't have required the vast increase in energy and resource consumption we have seen. Maybe they're doing something in a niche area but that's not the same as the economy as a whole.

That flies in the face of all the data on their energy and resource use.

Presumably you don't want the government to continue to borrow money? Because that's what happens if you ditch the fiscal rules.

Well no, that's not how political parties work. There's always disagreement, often major disagreement, within parties. If people left political parties every time there was a disagreement with the leadership none of them would last 5 minutes.

They will be able to make some progress on good vibes and being all things to all people. But reality will bite at some point and it will be interesting to see how they deal with that.

That was possible pre-covid, before russia invaded ukraine and when interest on government debt was Β£40bn a year, not over Β£100bn.

Would a Green government not look to develop trade with India?
25.02.2026 14:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
Can you not see the attempt to associate Labour with Modi is an obvious appeal to sectarianism? What other message would the Greens be trying to communicate here?

The Bible gives us Christians barely enough guidance on running a church, let alone a country. 'Christian country' is a category error and a nonsensical phrase.

Meh, the US just isn't that important in the overall global picture any more. It has about 18% of total car sales and around 12% of global CO2 emissions.
Of course it would be great for the US to see sense but mainly for its own benefit. It's a real Kodak moment.
22.02.2026 20:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
We're basically at that stage now. 20 million EVs were sold worldwide last year, about 25% of total new car sales.
22.02.2026 19:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
There aren't many parts to an EV. They are insanely simple machines. So they are less likely to fail compared to an ICE. Goodness how much I've had to spend an exhausts, DPFs, radiators and the rest. Happily that's all behind me.

How do you propose to decarbonise transport without EVs? Countries with the best public transport in the world still have a large number of cars.

Plenty of 2nd hand EVs out there now.
