It's kind of sad when she used to be such a hard line environmentalist, but doesn't seem to make the obvious connections between housing, transit and sustainability.

Urban planner in Toronto Leave the world better than you found it. Opinions are my own.

23.10.2025 03:07 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Drivers barely even slow down when they hook turn on red these days. Half the time they don't even try to stop before entering the crosswalk. It's an epidemic of bad behaviour on behalf of drivers.
18.10.2025 17:35 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This is so amazing. Whereas Toronto is about to build another traffic street along the shoreline because our planning is still stuck in the 1980s. ๐ญ
03.10.2025 19:12 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It's hard work but it's (dis)honest work.
29.08.2025 00:09 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Hot take, people who hate cities shouldnโt be in charge of cities
11.08.2025 16:16 โ ๐ 1669 ๐ 255 ๐ฌ 28 ๐ 25@ttcalerts.bsky.social I think your map at Shaw and Dundas is wrong. Why is Shaw west of Ossington? Very confusing when it's relevant to the route change.
05.08.2025 01:14 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Once again, the only thing that units all Canadians is that we're not Americans ๐ช๐ช
02.08.2025 04:18 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I love everything about this outcome.
17.07.2025 23:54 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0...something about living too long and becoming the villain.
17.07.2025 23:50 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0But Reece! We need to balance the needs of drivers!!!
So many good ideas have died on the mantle of balance in this city.
Toronto urban designers when another row of fine grain retail gets replaced with a ground floor wall of glass and plastic window wrapping:
08.07.2025 12:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Toronto's housing policy is so backwards, it's infuriating.
06.07.2025 23:06 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It's so frustrating that after all the investment the track level feels... the same in most locations.
04.07.2025 01:41 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The city is THRIVING
29.06.2025 23:07 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I've lived here for 15 years and the scale of Toronto Pride still blows my mind. It gives me hope for the rest of the year โ we can do big things if we just dare to try!
29.06.2025 23:05 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It's such a great venue. Rain or shine, the Bentway is a go! Excited to see it evolve into the city's fabric and identity
29.06.2025 05:09 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The police seem much more lax on public drinking these days too. Can't say I mind.
29.06.2025 03:15 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A student in a class I gave a presentation to asked what the single most important thing to prioritize in planning was, and my answer was "efficiency" because everything else flows from that. Want more nature? Build efficient cities. Want more transit? Build more with less. Etc.
24.06.2025 21:22 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0*residential* zoning should NOT discriminate between low and high density housing. It should only be about separating housing from pollution. Including car exhaust and micro particulates (looking directly at everyone putting apartments next to car sewers and patting their backs)
21.06.2025 18:04 โ ๐ 23 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Meanwhile the sea of detached house residential zones, and the 100% vacant airspace above it, is apparently perfectly normal and fine. Totally fine that it means few poorer people can live in those zones. Status quo bias is everywhere.
21.06.2025 17:56 โ ๐ 28 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0I remember when I moved here, the skyline really only looked impressive from a few angles, looking north or south. But now it's filled in and looks massive from every angle. So cool to see take shape over only 15 years.

05.06.2025 22:43 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Wanting corporate money out of Pride and having that granted feels like a monkey paw wish, but I suppose time will tell.
05.06.2025 22:42 โ ๐ 17 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The only things I can award our condition is that maybe firetrucks will get their easier and for 2 months each year people could feel sun on their faces when it's not cloudy. It's interesting to consider that we've given up every other benefit in pursuit of those two things.
05.06.2025 22:40 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Don't worry, those wide ROWs and stepbacks will start paying dividends aaaaannyyy day now.
05.06.2025 22:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Regressive infrastructure (highways) are expected to cause damage so it's downsides are excused, whereas 'progressive' infrastructure is expected to help the environment and so it has to be perfect and can't harm anyone in the process, lest it falter on its promise.

05.06.2025 21:17 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0In a meeting today, Sidsel Birk Hjuler pointed out a facet of motonormativity that even I had failed to see: why do we talk about people using people-sized vehicles as MICROmobility? How did people driving around with 4 empty seats get normalized as "mobility"?
