I'm pretty good at speaking off the cuff, but I would not speak on behalf of, or about, my team or company without significant time making sure what's allowed to be said, and what isn't.

"Send me an email and I'll get back to you on that if I can" is always an option when in doubt.

Prep work is key to doing consistently good live communication under pressure. At each of the larger events I commentated, I filled pages of a little notebook full of things about the people there ahead of time.

At each convention I ran a booth at, I had a google doc I wrote in advance and re-read

That script is important so that each person you talk to gets about the same info, the thing you need to say gets out there to each interviewer and so you don't go off-track and say something you shouldn't.

Research who you're scheduled to speak with! What questions do they usually ask? PREP WORK.

Don't promise anything you haven't publicly confirmed already unless making an announcement is literally the point of the interview.

If you have multiple interviews, know the things you *need* to say and *how you want to say them*. Have a basic script memorized and get used to giving "the spiel"

For real, get some media training before talking to media.

Spend time prepping for basically everything you can think of, sometimes that means just walking around your hotel room answering imaginary questions for an hour.

If you can't answer something confidently, don't answer it.
