Did I overstep

Part of what makes something ethical in a shared system is whether it could scale to universal behavior.

Possession also brings in a whole host of other problems including exploitation, entitlement, and distrust.

This is prolly why government workers are not allowed to accept food.

The intent has shifted from Use, which is part of the social contract, and Possession, which may or may not be part of the social contract.

Even if the supply is replenished regularly, the principle of fairness starts to erode: by taking more than one share because they’re not being used.

And we have to get away from the idea that just because it’s legal means it’s okay.

America is great because we accept a wide variety of things as okay. That’s part of its beauty.
But I do think we should perhaps get on board more about when certain things are not okay.

It’s that rigidity that makes it attractive. Making and having choices and then having to be accountable for them is hard. Many people would rather not.

Institutional abuse has to be self perpetuating for it to be sustainable. So sad.

Man. You nailed it right there. This dynamic is everywhere and has a role to play in politics as well, I believe.

This is, of course, purely anecdotal evidence.

I’ve have about a dozen friends and colleagues have serious disease picked up on screenings in Japan which would have been missed in the States, but a lot of people get state of the art, aggressive cancer treatment in the U.S. Japanese medicine is MUCH more conservative.

You want to be screened in Japan where they screen for EVERYTHING but treated in the U.S.
