mRNA vaccines are, without exaggeration, one of the greatest inventions in human history.

We basically hacked our immune systems. β€œHere’s the secret code for this new virus, prep to fight exactly that.” A promising avenue for addressing some cancers too.

And the US is throwing it away. For what?

Part of what makes something ethical in a shared system is whether it could scale to universal behavior.

Possession also brings in a whole host of other problems including exploitation, entitlement, and distrust.

This is prolly why government workers are not allowed to accept food.

The intent has shifted from Use, which is part of the social contract, and Possession, which may or may not be part of the social contract.

Even if the supply is replenished regularly, the principle of fairness starts to erode: by taking more than one share because they’re not being used.

Fond memories of the time my intern and I were discussing love languages.

Me: What would you guess my love language is?
Intern: Being right.

You can’t stop a queen who crowned herself.
But here is a reminder that the ones you’re looking up to are still healing.

I think the biggest problem with having new partners later in life is time and patience.

I know how little time I have left on earth. I wasted it on people who didn’t deserve it. So now I have a lot less patience for everyone.

Even the best relationships don’t get enough resources in those cases

It’s required that you despise your partner’s ex.

I can’t help that I’m an overachiever.

And I guess I just want people to know that for many of us, the struggle is real and we don’t want to be made fun of for using tools that help us keep our humanity and dignity intact. Whatever they may be

I kid, but I don’t. Making the connection between β€œit’s going to rain today” and β€œI don’t like getting caught in the rain with suede on” = I should remember not to wear suede when it’s forecasted to rain is honestly too fucking much some days

And we have to get away from the idea that just because it’s legal means it’s okay.

We need a stronger identity of whats acceptable. We need to talk to each other.

My lifetime is marked by the idea that β€œjust because we can’t doesn’t mean we should”.

America is great because we accept a wide variety of things as okay. That’s part of its beauty.
But I do think we should perhaps get on board more about when certain things are not okay.

This is not okay.

If you put the DOGE guys on a desert island where the only way out was to say the magic words β€œI’m not sure what the answer is, let me consult someone who has worked on this problem for a long time” they would all starve to death

It’s that rigidity that makes it attractive. Making and having choices and then having to be accountable for them is hard. Many people would rather not.

I’ve have about a dozen friends and colleagues have serious disease picked up on screenings in Japan which would have been missed in the States, but a lot of people get state of the art, aggressive cancer treatment in the U.S. Japanese medicine is MUCH more conservative.

You want to be screened in Japan where they screen for EVERYTHING but treated in the U.S.

Just my two cents
