The first scene I remember seeing as a young person was the one from Terminator. It’s not graphic, but pretty clear.

There is no hidden meaning.

Unless if by hidden you mean avoided.

Seeing this intellectually is one thing. But it does nothing to relieve the panic that lives inside my chest.

That takes times, patience, and reparenting myself.

It takes more than a realization.

I am still working on this. But I remember how overwhelming it was back then. I was doing the best I could without enough support.

But now I have support, choices, and the right to rest. And I don’t have to panic anymore.

Parts work frames this as my younger protector stepping in — she’s trying to keep me safe from that helplessness she felt. She’s operating from old reality, her methods (wanting to shut down, withdraw, or feel resentful) clash with my values and strength.

My nervous system wired itself to equate being needed with being flooded, tense, and alone. So in adulthood, even when I am perfectly capable, that younger part still sounds an alarm.

When a child is consistently given responsibilities beyond what they can emotionally or developmentally manage, they don’t just learn responsibility — they also learn overwhelm. And since their systems are still learning, sometimes they equate responsibility with overwhelm.

Polls like this are kind of trash because it forces people to choose. But I wonder what would happen if you gave people an “I need more information” choice.

What we aren’t talking about is how our polling data sucks.
