So, I’m stumped.

I’m pretty sure Meta won’t run a support function I could phone up and ask a human.

If I could, I’d ask how to logout of Messenger.

I’d also ask why Meta chose to design it this way.

So I asked Meta AI why Meta makes it so hard to log out of Messenger. Again, the AI failed by dodging back to Facebook logout.

I pressed the AI again, asking it why Meta makes it so hard to log out. Answer came there none. Other than the two half-arsed replies above.

The annoying AI spinning circle was there so I thought ask it for how to log out of Messenger.

AI failed. All it could tell me was how to logout of the different Facebook app. Which I’d tried and failed.

So, I open Messenger which I rarely ever use to logout there. And there’s no logout option. Nada. None. Zero. Zilch.

It does seem to guide me to instead logout of Facebook. Which I’d tried and been auto re-logged back in.

I closed the Facebook app. When I reopened it I’d be automatically logged back in by Meta. There was a message “we’ve logged you back in because you’re logged in to Messenger”. Hmmm 🤔 WTF?

I was trying to log out of the Facebook app on my iPhone. I thought I’d succeeded but then the App still displayed by own profile on an apparent login page and said there were 8 notifications waiting for me. So, clearly not a full log out.

I think many of us are used to finding a logout button or option on just about every website or app we use. Google has it. Amazon has it. Meta doesn’t. Even Meta’s AI thinks that’s odd or unusual.
