As a twin, this definitely seems creepy to me. Singletons? Really?

Every day in December ends the same way: "Whelp, it's almost midnight -- I probably should call it an evening [checks watch, it is 7:30]."

All herbivore means is "too lazy to hunt but will eat meat if it's dumb enough to get that close to my mouth." I've seen enough horses catching and eating birds to know that hippos are right out.

I have a pet theory that he's in almost every book in the series.

Basic light pollution diagram showing four different streetlight set ups ranging from more light pollution on the left to less light pollution on the right. The most pollution option, labelled "very bad" is a street lamp with a round uncovered bulb on top, making a sphere of light in the air. The next option, labelled "bad" has a tiny cap on top, that limits the upward pollution a bit. The "better" option is mostly uncovered on top, limiting pollution above the streetlight. The final option, labelled "best" has a full shroud overtop, limiting the light to only below the streetlight, where it is needed for pedestrians and vehicles.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

Looks like a great read, but the placement of the blurbs had me a little confused on the title for a bit...

I think part of it is that it also doesn't quite fit the WHFB stuff either , due to all the scale changes (mostly in that they started using realistic proportions in their models now). I could see it fitting well in an Old World setting that actually had updated models and a uniform scale.

Yeah, I could see that. I don't even disagree, really, but it seems really out of place on their current range.

Not that TC is bad in any way, but it's a very different vibe from Warhammer. Also kind reminds me of the style of Total War Warhammer. Much more gritty and grounded.

Eh, I'm not impressed, at least in the context of Warhammer. The painting is technically great, and the sculpt aren't bad per se, but none of it really seems to fit with the rest of their line. It feels like they looked at Trench Crusade and said "our art needs to be more like that".

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

β€œAmerica is the wealthiest nation on Earth, but its people are mainly poor, and poor Americans are urged to hate themselves. To quote the American humorist Kin Hubbard, 'It ain’t no disgrace to be poor, but it might as well be.' It is in fact a crime for an American to be poor, even though America is a nation of poor. Every other nation has folk traditions of men who were poor but extremely wise and virtuous, and therefore more estimable than anyone with power and gold. No such tales are told by the American poor. They mock themselves and glorify their betters. The meanest eating or drinking establishment, owned by a man who is himself poor, is very likely to have a sign on its wall asking this cruel question: 'if you’re so smart, why ain’t you rich?' There will also be an American flag no larger than a child’s hand – glued to a lollipop stick and flying from the cash register.

Americans, like human beings everywhere, believe many things that are obviously untrue. Their most destructive untruth is that it is very easy for any American to make money. They will not acknowledge how in fact hard money is to come by, and, therefore, those who have no money blame and blame and blame themselves. This inward blame has been a treasure for the rich and powerful, who have had to do less for their poor, publicly and privately, than any other ruling class since, say Napoleonic times. Many novelties have come from America. The most startling of these, a thing without precedent, is a mass of undignified poor. They do not love one another because they do not love themselves.”

reading slaughterhouse 5 for the first time and i was absolutely knocked senseless by this passage, which is so true and relevant that it feels like it was pulled from a history book
