Always interesting to see what the @nytimes.com chooses to share on this platform and what they don’t. This is one of the pieces that they aren’t publicizing here.

What I think about the Sydney Sweeney controversy is that Trump should release the Epstein files.

This is why I’ve been researching bad faith (and functionally getting nowhere because of gatekeeping pedantry). It’s been weaponized and our press is unable/unwilling to adequately fight it at a time when the stakes are existential.

If Dems win, he will say the elections were rigged and congressional Republicans will refuse to seat the Democratic majority. CNN, the NYT, and NPR will run endless stories about the ‘controversy’ and Republicans will stay in charge.

And that is IF midterms happen in any meaningful way. Trump is not going to cancel them, he (and his fellow republicans) will engage in blatant bad faith which will induce every mainstream press outlet to take the bait.

It also assumes two things which seem totally absurd- a) that billionaires would leave the cultural center of the US because of a somewhat higher tax bill and b) that most billionaires are so terrible at accounting that they aren’t protecting their income/wealth.

What would the economic impact be on NYC if Faber’s right and some billionaires left the city? It likely wouldn’t affect the city in any meaningful way.
