Not discounting the racism of the north, and it’s 100% true that northern cities like Chicago and Boston, and northern states like Indiana and Oregon 100% give the south a run for their money. Yes, I would argue that the Solid South under Jim Crow is a more authoritarian state.

You make a fair point - but it’s also fair to point out that from roughly the 1890s to the 1960s the South was a single party, single race dictatorship.
