Last week, @rhodesben.bsky.social and I did a Munk Debates against Kevin Roberts and Kellyanne Conway on whether Trump is leading America into a new golden age.

We won. This is from my closing statement.

There’s nothing golden about a movement that bathes in gratuitous cruelty.

Yeah I also took it as a bridge between cynical spy and rebel alliance, for both Andor’s character and the Rebellion as an organization.

Most political commentators are too polite to say this, but Trump won because of his appeal to the most important voting bloc: morons. If the Democrats want to win again the answer isn’t becoming more left or more right, it’s coming up with dumb policies that morons like

Rep. Laurel Libby, R-Auburn, recently used my second-place finish in the 1,600-meter run, and that of my teammate in the 800-meter run, to malign Soren Stark-Chessa, the trans-identified athlete who finished first.

One of the reasons I chose to run cross-country and track is the community: Teammates cheering each other on, athletes from different schools coming together, and the fact that personal improvement is valued as much as, if not more than, the place we finish.

Last Friday, I ran the fastest 1,600-meter race I have ever run in middle school or high school track and earned varsity status by my school’s standards. I am extremely proud of the effort I put into the race and the time that I achieved. The fact that someone else finished in front of me didn’t diminish the happiness I felt after finishing that race. I don’t feel like first place was taken from me. Instead, I feel like a happy day was turned ugly by a bully who is using children to make political points.

We are all just kids trying to make our way through high school. Participating in sports is the highlight of high school for some kids. No one was harmed by Soren’s participation in the girls’ track meet, but we are all harmed by the hateful rhetoric of bullies, like Rep. Libby, who want to take sports away from some kids just because of who they are.

Anecdotally, I basically fell off of Marvel once the TV shows became too much to keep up with. After losing the completionist streak the movies lost a lot of their appeal too

Had a similar experience this weekend. Was fully prepared to say it holds up surprisingly well in the face of lots of current IP slop but Ewan McGregor and the costume design are basically the only things that aren’t terrible.

I think Marvel just obscured the inevitability that streaming entertainment has just really diminished the audience for theatrical movies. It may not be that movies are doing something wrong they can fix, there’s just not as much demand.

Civil War was a fine movie but its politics were too vague. wouldve been way better if Jesse Plemmons turned to the camera & said "i am not a cool guy" & then specified he doesn't support liberal democracy

More fodder for my view that Stancilism is directionally correct but depends on everyone taking a good economy for granted. We might soon be in an environment where it's actually good that Democrats are pathologically compelled to focus on kitchen table issues.

β€œGive money to poor kids” is THE progressive idea that:

1. Is easy to explain

2. Has relatively fast/simple implementation

3. Scales up or down cleanly depending on the vote count in Congress

4. Makes sense on the merits
