the 2x06 makeover plot too, which p obviously would have been an arc about stede wrongly thinking he needs THINGS to impress ed and having to realize he doesn't need that at all because ed thinks being stede bonnet is already the most impressive feat imaginable

idk there's JUST enough left to see the outlines of some kind of arc stede was meant to have about wealth and attachment and adjusting to a life of chosen poverty but not enough to see quite where it was going

and then there was obviously meant to be a bigger arc about ricky as a foil for stede and one of the few pieces left is about different attitudes toward wealth, ricky trying to appeal to stede on the basis of class solidarity - you and me, we know what indigo's worth - and completely failing

and then there's bits of cut material that gesture at that too, the fact that the earring was meant to be a bigger deal & then he was supposed to lose it by the end. the motif of slowly patching up the cabin that seems to have been mostly cut

stede gave up his wealth at the end of s1 but s2 has this quiet motif of him repeating that decision over and over and over again. wanting to earn a big ship to impress ed then giving up on that. getting the cursed suit and giving it up. getting his cool unique sword and then losing it.

every single time they kissed in s2 i thought to myself "well, at least we're done forever with 'rhys and taika are bad at kissing' discourse" and then logged online to be proven wrong
