It seems likely that a person whose whole life, from his earliest days, was defined by being part of the landlord class, would be unable or unwilling to conceive of himself as a tenant. Even (especially) in a house that’s ostensibly owned by the American people.

I was just saying this morning that part of why Mike Johnson has been getting away with doing terrible things to how the House runs is because he looks like a guy who should be trying to sell you Allstate Home Insurance out of a strip mall office. Just the most ordinary, average white guy possible.

The point is, none of the great ideas Goodyear and Gordon are promoting are going to threaten my ability to do my job at any point in the near future.

I also live in the suburbs of Houston. Here in Harris County we keep voting to fund Metro projects like extending light rail to both airports. Metro keeps taking that money then saying, “Well, just one airport. Actually, how about Bus Rapid Transit instead? Actually, no. Road repairs and expansion.”

It feels a bit hypocritical for me to be promoting these car abolitionists when my job as a professional grocery shopper relies on me being able to drive all day long.
