A tough thing to do, in general, as a human is take all the compliments to heart and completely ignore criticisms. Or, in this case an angry mob of leftist gatekeepers relentlessly focused on excoriating a person for not living up to their impossible standards.

This seems like a genuine challenge.

How to Pronounce Liev Schreiber (CORRECTLY!)
YouTube video by Julien Miquel How to Pronounce Liev Schreiber (CORRECTLY!)

10 minutes into what is assuredly going to be a hugely entertaining episode, and my morning walk completely derailed by β€œLiev Shreeber.”

He just voted to confirm Clay Fowlkes a couple weeks ago, in the middle of the Minnesota ICE crackdown.

I haven’t done heavy research into Fowlkes’ background, but if Senator Whitehouse is still voting, at least occasionally, to confirm Trump nominees with this going on, it seems like a problem.

Why Are Senate Democrats Still Voting to Confirm Trump’s Judicial Nominees? Democrats on the Judiciary Committee keep decrying Trump nominees as unqualified extremists. They also keep voting to confirm them.

And yet Senator Whitehouse keeps voting to confirm Trump-appointed judges.

Went to see @adamconover.net do stand-up in Houston last night (early show), and we had a great time!

But my wife was feeling gross all day and almost sent our 19-year old daughter instead. Turns out his current set is 2/3 dating and sex-related, and I am SO glad my wife decided to go after all.

Yes, the majority of voters here in Texas have kept Republicans in complete control of state government since the beginning of the century. We haven’t voted for a Democrat statewide since the early 90’s.

This is what Texan voters (broadly) want. Maybe that will change this year, but probably not.

Meanwhile here in Texas, I know four different families off the top of my head with trans people that have left the state in the last decade (3 in the last 5 years, since the state really ramped it up) due to our Republican leadership making being trans a crime, one step at a time.

Good job on the part of the Fox News location producer to capture Leavitt with that halo of light behind her head. Speaking directly to the evangelical audience with that visual cue.

I saw Outland in 10th grade in a Science Fiction class where it was a new class and the teacher had only figured out maybe 60% of what she wanted to teach in the class. I liked it just fine back then. Would be interesting to rewatch!

Interesting piece with some valuable info about how voters view β€œcorruption.”

Fascinating that right-wing media, which dominates our information ecosystem, and its decades-long project to dismiss corruption by painting it as something all politicians are doing, didn’t even merit a mention here.

Seeing people’s reactions to this piece over the last few days, has made me pretty happy to be paywalled by Vox, a site I used to visit almost daily.

So when Metro was doing a region-wide survey a few years back, they shouted them away from bringing the busses to the main road near me for similar reasons.

You see, the story is criminals ride the bus to nice neighborhoods, steal stuff, and then hop back on the bus with their ill-gotten gains.

Conservative white folks in my suburb of Houston legit think that Metro expanding its bus lines to include our nearest major thoroughfare in the 80’s is what changed the character of the area and increased crime.

Abbott breaks with Trump over president’s call to nationalize elections | Houston Public Media The Texas governor pushed back against the president’s call for federal oversight, even as Abbott and other Republicans have taken steps to assert state control over Harris County elections.

Wasn’t @jamellebouie.net just talking about this a week or two ago? Greg Abbott on elections:

"Listen, my understanding of the United States Constitution, uh, and that is elections for state positions are to be conducted by states, and I don’t think we should deviate from that," Abbott said.

I think the general audience appetite for LOTR material that isn’t LOTR or The Hobbit is very limited. And Amazon and Warner Bros. have unintentionally proven that in the last 5 years.

But I think β€œLet’s do Harry Potter again, but with more of the book material onscreen,” also has limited appeal.

Warners was advertising the new Audiobooks, featuring a cast full of stars we’re all disappointed with, in movie theaters for a couple months at the end of 2025.

They clearly think this franchise still has the juice. The success of the last video game means it probably still does. But I hope not.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr Probes Comcast Relations With NBC Stations FCC Chairman Brendan Carr sent a letter to Comcast on Tuesday announcing a probe of the company's relations with NBC affiliates.

So we're clear (because the press is apparently incapable) this is a fake competition investigation designed to help local right wing propaganda broadcasters consolidate and increase their power over whatever's left of local U.S. news

Last week’s revelation that a lawyer with no expertise in this type of case had nevertheless had 88 of them dumped on her by DOJ gave us a real nice snapshot of how much the Department is struggling to keep up with their own goons.

It’s tough when the people who know what they’re doing all resign.

Because the Winter Olympics are generally in mid-February and the Super Bowl didn’t move to February until 2004. It didn’t move to the second Sunday in February until 2021, when the NFL implemented the 17-game schedule.

But selling passes to the early birds is easier if they pretend it’s still a big-time event at the main convention center.

Well, that’s sad. But I think I made the trip out to La Senterra maybe 4-5 times total in all the time it was open? It was just too far across Houston for me from up in Spring, especially with Grand Parkway tolls on top of already being an expensive experience.
