It’s up there in my top New Year’s Eve celebrations.

I don’t have a picture, but the best sandwich I ever had was one New Year’s Eve my mom and I made lobster rolls, ate them with a bottle of Pol Roger Champagne, while we watched festivities on tv, sitting in front of the fireplace. The kids were young and with their dad that night. It was bliss.

Point is, it's not that they couldn't do it. They didn't want to.

When in my 20s I commuted past a Rolls-Royce dealership that had the most beautiful blue car I’ve ever seen. One day I went in for a closer look. The salesman knew I was a looky-loo, but what really gave me away was asking what the MPH was in an attempt to be car sophisticated. Still think about it.

I know it’s too much to expect them to know their history, but if the American Revolution had a motto, it definitely would not have been “immigrants go home.”

It would have been “get your fucking soldiers out of our cities.”
