Got a chance to spend some time with the new Ring Racers 2.4 duel mode today, it's really fun! Now, instead of "whoever finishes first wins", you keep racing until one person hits 4 checkpoints more than the opponent. Way more fun IMO and helps keep games short if there's a massive skill difference.

If you follow me I'm sure you're aware that Ring Racers 2.4 is out. For today's stream I'm gonna do a beginner's workshop, both for Ring Racers and the new stuff in 2.4 in general. If you're new or maybe bounced off the game before, stop on by and feel free to ask questions!

I won't deny that it's a complex game and there's a lot to learn, but once it starts to click and you master the mechanics, it is mmuuuahhh chefs kiss

Also the battle mode is weirdly hype??? It has some additional mechanics to suit the fact that you're not racing and it's sick as hell

The thing I love about RR is that there's so much player expression in the game. There are plenty of powerful items, but nothing is truly uncounterable. And especially with the 2.4 update, it's way less prone to last second blowouts because someone got lucky with a powerful item box at the end.

One thing to note that this is not a "pick up and play" game. If you're coming from Mario Kart or Crossworlds, you'll have a lot of habits to break, and mastering all the mechanics in RR is like learning a fighting game. You'll probably get washed against experienced players and that's okay!

Also, many of the included tracks have gotten redesigns and there are literally dozens of pages of rebalances if you haven't played since 2.3.

I don't say this lightly when I think that this is the best kart racer I've ever played - not just "good for a fangame" or "good for freeware", the BEST.

If you tried Ring Racers before and were turned off by the tutorial, it's been split into chunks that bring up the relevant information as you encounter it in the singleplayer rather than all at once. It's also been *heavily* tuned and rebalanced to encourage solid racing rather than bagging.
