Of all the visible buildings in this photo, one (1) building is still standing today.

It’s pretty amazing that I can stick these little pieces of floppy plastic into my terrible eyes and suddenly have 20/20 vision.

Today in 1972, as Apollo 17 astronauts Eugene Cernan, Harrison β€œJack” Schmitt, and Ron Evans were rocketing toward the Moon, one of them looked back and took this iconic photograph, the first to capture a fully-illuminated round Earth and the only one taken by a human being.

The snow has kept the vroom vrooms away and it makes for blissful relative silence. Winter is my new favorite season.

Huh. We have enough breweries that some churn is inevitable but DS was around for a long time. Bet the sports bar lasts six months.

Honestly so embarrassing that Trump would routinely round up press people in a pen at his rallies and direct everyone to boo them like journalists were the worlds worst zoo animals and the last four years have been the media trying to apologize and make it up to him

Alternately, you could do some cool CIA stuff using a combination of CCTV and EM spectrum emission tracking to zero in on them when they’re unable to speed away.

So why not follow these scofflaws at a distance, without lights or siren, until they reach a compromised point in their journey and pounce there? Make them look over their shoulders and worry that any time they stop could be it for them.

Ancient humans were successful hunters because our endurance allowed us to pursue and take down prey after it had tired out.

The chargers and four-wheelers don’t have bottomless gas tanks, and the drivers have to use the bathroom at some point… 2/3

Had an exchange with a motorcycle cop tonight who got blatantly passed by a pack of four-wheelers. He said they don’t even bother pursuing because if they run and kill someone, it’s on the officer. 1/3

Feeling my sanity slipping away as more and more (genuinely awful) stories about what Trump said or did accrues. Because:

HE PLOTTED AND ATTEMPTED TO EXECUTE A VIOLENT COUP ON LIVE TV! HE ATTMEPTED TO END THE REPUBLIC! HE'S THE BIGGEST TRAITOR TO THE CONSITUTIONAL ORDER SINCE THE CONFEDERACY!

Tim Walz: "He crossed a line ... Trump over the weekend talked about using the Army against people who disagree with him. Just so you're clear about that - that's you. This is not some mythical thing. He called it 'the enemy within.' And to Trump, anybody who doesn't agree with him is the enemy."

Back on Memorial Day weekend, I was on a bike ride and ended up on the promenade by Liberty Memorial, where a naval officer was having a ceremony for taking command of a destroyer. Very cool to see as an onlooker. 1/2

On June 18, 1961, the unemployed Gaedel, who had just turned 36, was at a bowling alley in Chicago, his birthplace and hometown. Gaedel was followed home and beaten. His mother discovered him lying dead in his bed. He had bruises about his knees and on the left side of his face. A coroner's inquest determined that he also had a heart attack. Bob Cain, who had pitched to Gaedel, was the only Major League Baseball figure to attend the funeral, despite the fact that the two never formally met. Gaedel was interred at Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum in Cook County, Illinois. His tombstone indicates that his family name may actually have been Gaedele, not Gaedel.

Tumbling through Wikipedia and I ended up on the page for Eddie Gaedelβ€”you know, the dwarf the St. Louis Browns sent up to bat as a stunt. Aaand…I got to the part of his life they always leave out of the story… 😒
