Text reads - I picked up Little House on the Prairie and read to Mary, who was a nice and inquisitive child. She no longer smelled like sickness. After I read for a little while, I paused for a minute, and Mary asked me what was wrong. This family had such a hard time surviving, I said. And for what? They didn't even belong here. They weren't from here.

Image of a Black man sitting in profile in darkened room, staring into the middle distance sadly. A clip of a headline reads: RFK Jr's war on antidepressants is coming β and it will cost lives. A clip of a second headline reads: RFK Jr. finds twisted reason to take away your anti-depression meds. Text reads: Stigmatizing life-saving medication isn't making America healthy. Save Lives, Remove RFK Jr.
SSRIs are life-changing for millions of people. Fighting the stigma around mental illness and medication is hard enough without RFK Jr. using his platform to sow doubt, hesitancy, and shame.
The cost of ripping away antidepressants is steep.Β If we want to save lives, we have to #RemoveRFKjr.

An Instagram post from the Assembly of First Nations reading: Important Travel Advisory
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) has heard reports that some First Nation citizens have been subjected to increased questioning and detainment by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The AFN strongly condemns these actions and reaffirms First Nationsβ inherent and Jay Treaty rights to cross-border mobility.
The AFN advises any First Nations members traveling to the U.S. to carry valid identification, including a Status Card or a Canadian passport. Anyone requiring assistance with Status Card applications, renewals, replacements, or urgent processing related to travel may contact Indigenous Services Canadaβs Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS) Program at 1-800-567-9604 or visit www.canada.ca/indigenous-services-canada.
Please note that federal law enforcement may not be familiar with Tribal IDs. If an ICE agent does not accept your Tribal ID as identification, the Native American Rights Fund recommends that you request to speak to their supervisor.
In emergency cases, Canadian citizens in the U.S. can contact the Canadian Consulate for assistance through 1-613-996-8885.
Iβm not sure how much notice this has received but the Assembly of First Nations in Canada has issued a travel advisory for the United States after reports that Indigenous people are being increasingly questioned and detained by ICE. www.instagram.com/p/DT-_SacDEH...

The Brackish Pool: Towards a Critical Practice of Reading Weird Fiction
The ideal reader of the weird has to embrace a kind of wilful suspension of foreknowledge or generic expectation.
For the @strangehorizons.bsky.social 2026 Criticism Special, I wrote about weird fiction being constituted by weird reading, vis a vis Sederholm and Woofterβs The Weird and @undertow.bsky.socialβs The Best Weird Fiction of the Year, Vol. 1., in tribute to Maureen Kincaid Speller. Itβs a long one.

Whenever I buy a new book, I add it to my TBR pile and allow it to age for a period ranging from months to years. This process increases the complexity and nuance of the prose, evens out any sharp notes, and adds distinctiveness to characterizations.
