To be fair, you have way more accessible commentary on Chinese dialogue than a lot of people that internet randos are able to ask. Also, shout-out to Toisan, my grandmother's family is from Yanping.

14.09.2025 17:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Actually, it's not QUITE the same job market. Ours is smaller because our disabilities prevent us from doing certain jobs.
Oh, and we also have to deal with being discriminated against for being disabled at all, even when applying for jobs we "can do".
Related to my last thread: Many people with disabilities are told to "find a job you CAN do".
Is there a magical pile of jobs just waiting for a qualified disabled person to fill them? If so, why wasn't I told?
People with disabilities have to navigate the same shitty job market as anyone else.
π§΅
That brings me nicely to the main point:
"Unable to work" means "unable to do things that take as much time and energy as a normal job".
A person who can't work 10 hours a week at a "normal" part-time job because of their disability ALSO can't spend 10 hours a week building their side hustle.
What if the side hustle is filling out surveys or playing mobile games or something?
tl;dr I can say from experience that it takes at least as much time and energy to pay your bills by doing surveys or playing mobile games than if they'd just gotten a regular job instead.
Building a side hustle into something that pays the bills is a LOT of work. In many cases, starting a "side hustle" actually means starting your own business.
Starting your own business is more work than a normal job, not less. Plus, even successful businesses take years to turn a profit.
So, today someone suggested that since I can't work and have been having trouble getting disability benefits, I should start a side hustle.
Friends, this was a bad suggestion, even though it was well-intentioned and seems reasonable at first glance.
Let's go over why.
Good to know, I'll have to try it next time I'm in town!
