Really liked the novels. The first one started off slow, but it rapidly got very interesting. I think they lend themselves to Berman-era episodes very easily. I could see myself reading more. #TrekBookClub

The Mosada analogy was, to be honest, a bit odd and forced, but the solution was creative given the situation. It was a non-violent way to stop the problem, which is always good. #TrekBookClub

All peace and love to Kirk: Talking things to death was Kirk's forte. Of course more interesting than shooting things to death (and cheaper, too, for special effects departments). #TrekBookClub

You buy cheap, you buy twice! It could completely malfunction. So Caveat Emptor is a fitting title for the book, or in German, Excluded from Warranty. #TrekBookClub

I don't know why anyone would buy goods from Ferengi if that's how they act. Also not a good idea to take a Starfleet vessel captive, but you do you, right? #TrekBookClub

I think it would have a lot more success in the DS9 era, but I think it would have faced the same problem: it goes against everything in their culture. #TrekBookClub

Great way to connect the dots. It kinda makes sense. #TrekBookClub

Rom took the values he learned from humans and started to implement them with Ferengi. He focused on people's individual worth. #TrekBookClub

He seemed to genuinely care about his crew and maintained a good rapport with them. He tried to support them as people. #TrekBookClub

I think 13-year-old me would have thought this was too juvenile for my tastes.

I don't understand the sombrero memes. Like, are they saying they're from Mexico? It just seems weird.

Honor sounds better on paper, but that can lead to a lot of distorted outcomes, too.

I mean, it's not the best basis for society, but it's probably a lot better than many (most?). And all things told, it has its pluses and minuses. For example, yes Ferengi will lie, but they are predictable and don't generally try to murder everyone. #TrekBookClub

The German cover is better and means excluded from warranty, which makes a lot of sense in the context of the story. The story was maybe a little more light-hearted than what you'd think. #TrekBookClub

I think he would have eventually fit in, but DS9 was home. It made sense to be with the place he loved. #TrekBookClub

He wanted to make a deal, and he didn't go moralizing about it like many others would have. It led to a good solution for all. #TrekBookClub

I just keep wondering how old Scotty would be at this time - like 150 or 200! #TrekBookClub

People don't usually do well the first time they lead, so this is a welcome development. He grew and left the team to success, though much of that was due to Nog. It sounds like he needs better people skills, though. #TrekBookClub

Reminds me vaguely of the solar system killing weapon from the Force Awakens, but this is more plausible and less cartoony. #TrekBookClub

They were technologically formidable, which added some suspense, unlike for example the Pakleds, who were just not very smart. #TrekBookClub
