The film of the year? | Tom Davidson | The Critic Magazine What happens when you give Paul Thomas Anderson, one of the most acclaimed auteurs of the 21st century, a budget of roughly $150m, a hare-brained Thomas Pynchon novel about washed-up revolutionaries…

ended up seeing One Battle After Another three times in cinemas and I'm still yearning to see it again

rather than ripping the plaster off, why don't we apply lots of other, smaller, more irritating plasters

Brosnan is actually the 'best' Bond but hampered by terrible, terrible scripts (Goldeneye/Tomorrow Never Dies innocent though)

errr, Badlands is a lovers-on-the-run film and Days of Heaven is a period romance, neither of them plot-wise scream 'Western' to me.

IDK, i don't really care but when I watched Train Dreams I took absolutely nothing 'Malickian' from it. Jesse James a bit, sure.

As far as I'm aware, Malick has never made a Western?

Also, 'people get swallowed up by time' isn't a particularly Malickian trait.

Malick does investigate nature and man's impact on it, for sure. But that's a bit vague for all the direct comparisons. Train Dreams is too kitsch to be Malick.

I really don't get the Malick comparisons with this movie... because it's got some lush cinematography and a voiceover?

If Martin Scorsese’s next movie is a Hawaiian crime drama starring Dwayne Johnson, I’ll eat my hat A bit of common sense and some critical thinking and this report doesn’t really seem likely
