Senate appropriators approve Labor-HHS bill with NIH bump The vote and lawmaker comments show that most senators aren't going along with the White House's proposed 40% budget cut to NIH.

BIG NEWS:

“Senate appropriators on Thursday approved an FY26 Labor-HHS bill that included a slight bump in funding for the NIH, with a strong 26–3 bipartisan vote.”

Thank you to members of the Senate Appropriations Committee on both sides of the aisle!

I submitted an NIH grant in October. The proposal was based on a discovery 4 years in the making that could explain why some people with a certain genetic mutation develop autism.

The review was supposed to be yesterday, but it was abruptly cancelled.

This is why I am marching for science today.

F31-div did resurface on Sunday online (not at grants.gov as you showed me), maybe it’s related (I’m hoping it’s related since several other diversity mechanisms also resurfaced on Sunday)

UCLA scientists led by Dr. Hilary Coller have found that quiescent cells express transcription factors that act as "master switches" to regulate genes that suppress cell cycle progression, prevent the adoption of irreversible fates and reorganize their metabolism. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Adaptation shapes the representational geometry in mouse V1 to efficiently encode the environment Sensory adaptation dynamically changes neural responses as a function of previous stimuli, profoundly impacting perception. The response changes induced by adaptation have been characterized in detail...

New results! Visual adaptation changes the geometry of V1 population activity: frequent stimuli elicit smaller responses but become more discriminable. Similar results are seen in ANNs trained with metabolic constraints, suggesting these changes emerge from efficient coding. bit.ly/3VJHXRn
