Oh yeah, that's a great episode. I think Hercules also meets Mary and Joseph at one point but I could be misremembering. They're all over the place (but in a fun way.)

It's explicitly a prequel to the 90s movie set in a Silk Road trading post in 15th or 16th century China. A fun and interesting setting where you can have basically anyone show up, though I wouldn't go in expecting anything even resembling historical accuracy.

I remember. Watched the first 3 a lot as a kid. There was even a surprisingly decent Mortal Kombat show as part of that post-Xena gold rush.

Same era as when D&D was created so something was in the air.

I also think the genre lends itself particularly well to the monthly comic book format. Episodic television, too, if money wasn't a concern.
