We have been adopted by Lilikoi - a 2 month old kitten (calico) and Jane (gray tabby) who is a month older. They were in the same room at the shelter, not bonded or anything, and now they are best friends. They are hilarious and sweet and make things more bearable.

The moose is loose and the zoos lose.

I had to write that down immediately because I was trying to think of a way to get students to remember when to use and to stop using loose for both. Which happened all the time. In their university work.

Then I realized I'm not a teacher anymore.

The Board of Governors decided, unilaterally, that no published textbook in the field of sociology could be used in compliance with the law for an Intro to Sociology class. None.
Victor: There's not a single existing textbook on the market that could be used that would qualify under state law?
Zachary: Correct.
Victor: I'm sorry, that's kind of funny. Like, the absurdity of not a single sociology textbook getting past the censors. I mean, it makes me kind of proud of our colleagues, but...

I do want to shout-out my fellow sociologists, who have collectively created a discipline so woke that not a single one of our introductory textbooks can make it past Florida's censors.

Great work everyone.

Notice a pattern?

They don't even know that penguins live on the opposite end of the world from Greenland. We are being terrorized by imbeciles.

I keep thinking about how our current social and political conditions relate to our cultural products. I wonder why I keep doing this.

Then I realize I am actually trained to do exactly this kind of analysis and taught mass media and pop culture for 15 years.

Then I go back to sending out resumes.

Having the World Cup and Olympics here under the Trump regime is really a recipe for disaster.

Again: why would any player or fan come here under these circumstances? Especially non-white people?

Expect more of thisπŸ‘‡πŸ½

It's a series of books, and they covered the first 2 this season. I don't know if they've said which of the 4 remaining will be seasons 2 and 3. I'd be surprised if they didn't do Shane/Ilya's second book.

Bless Canada for taking a risk on this. This opens the door for other sports butts.

Theodora Dorno (named for Theodor Adorno) was my best buddy and constant companion for 18 years and we're going to miss her like mad. The year has nowhere to go but up from here.

We were gerrymandered out of 45 (right down the middle of our street). While I'm grateful not to be in his ward anymore, every time I see anything about or from him, it still frosts my ass that he somehow got another term.

Seeing television after so many years of just streaming can be surreal, especially daytime television.

2) I have been crying for like 8 days straight and I my eyes are so swollen that I don't think they can legally be called eyes anymore.

3) It's so much better than it needs to be in all respects and I'm emotionally destroyed. Watch it.

4) I watched fucking Eddington for you. Watch this.

This has been such a horrifying year, which in my mind makes it completely ok for me to bully my friends into watching Heated Rivalry. How I sell it to different people (70% success rate, combined):

1) There are beautiful young men with hockey butts and crazy sexual chemistry. Watch it.

The book series gets further into the homophobia in the league (and league leadership) later on, so maybe also in future seasons of the show.

There are a ton of books like it (hockey is big in romance novels and I haven't figured out why) of all gender combos and relationship structures, but this adaptation is done particularly well. If you like romance/love stories, you might enjoy it. It comes in hot and develops with the characters.

Building on this work, I just published a new post on baby-name polarization: Is it politics … or just place? I dig into a core methodological concern: maybe what looks like partisan naming patterns are just urban-vs-rural sorting. inequalitybyinteriordesign.wordpress.com/2025/11/30/i...
