Whether healthy people people should take supplements is somewhat controversial. Many say they are unnecessary, however, studies show that athletes may benefit from pre-workout supplements. However, natural nutrition and hydration should take priority.

Hi Cristal,
I totally agree! I am very passionate about this too. In fact, over the course of the semester I've posted about this a few times. If an Instagram post or article or ANYTHING doesn't clearly state where it got the information from, I'm not reading it.

I plan to incorporate nutrition in my role as a future health professional by keeping in mind that the best diet is the one youβre willing to follow. This is crucial when discussing nutrition with patients, especially because there is no single best and healthiest diet.

Hi Jasmine,
That's awesome! I love all those foods! Banana with peanut butter is one of my favorite snack, and Greek yogurt has always been my go-to. When I don't have Greek yogurt, I like to make it by putting normal yogurt through a coffee filter.

One of the main things I look for in any nutrition post before I take what they it say as fact is proof. It's not always practical to cite everything, but here Dr. Frank makes a claim about the USDA, and it would have been nice if she also provided a link to her source.

One thing I am going to look for in any nutrition post before I take what they say as fact is proof that the information is accurate. I will look to see if they cited their source. If so, I will go to the source and check if what the nutrition post claimed is true.

Hi Kylie,
What a great article! In the lecture video, I was reminded of how many kids miss breakfast because they wake up and go straight to school. I've spend almost my whole life like that, and I want to start doing better. Thanks for the motivation!

Women generally have less water in their bodies and metabolize alcohol more slowly, leading to higher blood alcohol levels. This makes them more vulnerable to alcohol-related health risks, which is why their recommended limit for drinks per day is lower than for men.

What nutrients does your child need now?
See the current children's nutrition recommendations for protein, carbohydrates, more.
This article offers clear information on what children's nutrition needs are. Kids need the same nutrients as adults, but in different amounts. They should focus on nutrient-dense foods and limit added sugars, saturated fats, and salt.

Hi Angelina,
I totally agree! I think this gets at how the best diet is the one you're willing to follow. Tom's diet definitely was not perfect, but it allowed him to be consistent in a way that he was not able to be with seemingly "more perfect" diets in the past.

Fiber promotes satiety, making it a key nutrient for weight loss. When trying to lose weight, focusing on fiber-rich foods can help reduce overall calorie intake without feeling deprived. Fiber also supports heart health, digestion, and blood sugar control.

Tom decided to take action after his Black Friday chest pain, even though he "knew the beers and booze" would be good to cut out long before that. This demonstrates how behavior change isn't just about knowledge - it's about determination and commitment.

Hi Shivani,
That's right! In the video, James Corden mentioned how defects in the leptin gene are linked directly to obesity. This is definitely something we should keep in mind when discussing weight and body image. It's also a really good reminder to stay open minded.

Hi Monica,
I completely agree and I've had a lot of similar experiences. Itβs hard not to eat when it's social activity, also because I don't want to give off an "I'm better than you" vibe and be judged, or make other people feel bad about themselves and their choices.

The Mediterranean diet is great for weight loss and promotes healthy eating habits. However, it present a common barrier to healthful eating, because is especially difficult for people with busy lifestyles to follow.

For me one of the biggest barriers to healthful eating is lack of time to plan, shop, prepare, and cook healthy foods. School keeps me pretty busy, and on top of that I work. I often get pizza for lunch at Papa's Pizza because it's convenient and saves me time.

The keto diet has certainly been trending lately. The idea is, consuming less carbohydrates causes the liver to create ketones, which are actually preferable in some tissues and more efficient than glucose in making ATP. However, this diet may stress your kidneys.

Those are great ideas! Replacing the white bread with whole grain bread is my favorite because it is such a simple and effective way to make sandwiches more nutrient dense. You'll get more vitamen B, vitamen E, healthy fats, fiber, minerals and phytochemicals.
