A black graph that reads "Your commute is (probably) getting longer.
Canada's most congested cities were especially gridlocked in 2022 as commuters started returning to the office, and since then, they've gotten... Slightly worse!
I wonder how accurate this is.
If Edmonton average driving time is 20min per 10km, that's only 30km/h.
I average about 21km/h on my bike.
And my average speed by bike doesn't change based on rush hour traffic.
Why are people driving again?

Am reminded that the halifax explosion led to architects mass-building a neighbourhood out of cinderblocks. And everyone thinks its gorgeous despite being quite dense.
It turns out you can make a neighbourhood quite nice and functional by hiring architects instead of drafters

Neighborhood amenities were one of the reasons we picked to move to the Halifax peninsula. I love that my kids can walk to stores on their own.

I wish Halifax admin could understand how dangerous leaves in the bike lanes are. I narrowly avoided a bad crash on Bell road. The lanes are barely as wide as my handlebars, and over half full of wet leaves.
Weekly street cleaning had the roads clear though

The future being pushed by both AI boosters and educational censors is one where access to information is tightly controlled. Children will not be allowed to read certain books or learn certain narratives. โResearchโ will be performed only through one of a select few artificial intelligence tools owned by AI giants which are uniformly aligned behind the Trump administration and which have gone to the ends of the earth to prevent their black box machines from spitting out โwokeโ answers lest they catch the ire of the administration. School boards and library boards, forced to comply with increasingly restrictive laws, funding cuts, and the threat of being defunded entirely, leap at the chance to be considered forward looking by embracing AI tools, or apply for grants from government groups like the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), which is increasingly giving out grants specifically to AI projects.
Once you start thinking of AI as a war on humanity, on human thought, on human inquiry, on human labor, on nuance and critical thinking, it slots in pretty seamlessly with the right wing ideological project, oligarchical political projects, big tech's political projects, etc

Comparison of broken bracket and newly printed replacement
Replacement bracket installed
I did some functional #3dprinting today. A bracket on my son's Nerf gun broke. After an hour and a half of modeling and printing, it seems to fit just right

About 110 people on their bikes had a great time at I Light HFX 2025, jointly organized with Dal/Kings Bike Centre. Big thanks to our sponsors, Wagners Law, Halifax Cycles, Giant Halifax and Long Alley Bicycles. Also thanks to the ride marshals, Halifax Bike Party, and all the organizers.

Donโt miss I Light HFX. The weather is looking warm (by recent standards) but a little damp. But we wonโt let that dampen our spirits, weโre Haligonians!

Going through the motions of Andy Fillmore's first year as Halifax's mayor - Halifax Examiner
While I wait for a face-to-face interview with Fillmore, here are thoughts on the last year of reporting on City Hall.
Nov. 4 is the first year anniversary of this Halifax regional council meeting.
I have been trying since December to get an interview with Mayor Andy Fillmore. Three tries with no luck. But I wrote about reporting on Fillmore and some of his motions:

I didn't celebrate Halloween much as a kid. On our farm, October was a rush to get the crops harvested before the snow came. When I was 10, I was told since I was taller than most parents, I was too big to trick or treat.

A little late getting this up, but I had a great Halloween this year. I put together a costume for the first time since childhood. @criticalmasshfx.bsky.social was an amazing time, and I can't wait for the next one.
