Weaponised cyborg beard. Insane with genius. Matt Mercer says "fuck AI". Fascists can get tae fuck. Using my D&D character's name as I don't want Elon to make me naked.

#Cyberpunk #TTRPG this evening involved us finally facing my character's Adam Smasherised sister. He invited her to kill him, Predator style, then dropped two EMP grenades to disable her. Despite killing people for calling her "it" all session, he then told our rogue to "finish it". I am not okay.

They can't make more than ten episodes in five years and definitely can't maintain viewing figures for six months. No way it will be longer than ten eps, sadly.

I would genuinely be annoyed if it was good at this point, as it's not going to last

Sorry. That wasn't aimed at you. It was aimed at the network. A comic is better than nothing and that's appreciated.

People really seem to be enjoying it and it relating back to Sisko is interesting, but I really don't want to give it a chance and then have it either get left on a cliffhanger like Prodigy or descend into memes and clipbait like SNW.

Exactly. Sounds like Academy isn't even that bad, it's just not what anyone wanted to watch.

The Trek EU is great, but pretty much nobody cared about Academy, there was a guaranteed audience for Legacy, and everyone was up for it. Now the cast is getting older and moving on and it will probably never happen, while I would guess Academy has a couple seasons in it at best.

You wanted a TV show, but we gave you a comic. Be grateful, plebs.

That's good business.

I find my parents' behaviour unfathomable but you can see it's all trauma from how insane society was when they were kids. It doesn't make them any easier to deal with, though.

There is a phenomenon being documented called Boomer Fatigue where older people are naturally losing their emotional regulation as they age, but also were never taught any emotional regulation skills to compensate because their generation were so ruggedly individualist

Mandelson and Andrew have been outed and fired. They have no more power, at least for now.

I would want assurances that they will not come back from this, but I am otherwise not particularly interested in what else they did.

I want to see consequences for everyone else in the files. Yes, everyone

going to be mad circa 2028 when Peter Mandelson is acting as a key prime ministerial advisor from his cell, like a sort of New Labour Hannibal Lecter

Trainspotting is 30.
Its sequel didn’t make the same impact as its predecessor but how could it?
Nevertheless, I think it’s an extremely touching film because of Ewen Bremner. Spud pulls himself out of his addiction through art: by writing his autobiography & making a MΓΆbius strip of the two films.

Can't lie. It feels kinda sucky that Canada was caught cheating on video, swore at their opponents, and then won the curling gold. Doesn't feel very Olympian.

Renner is one, but there's also Kunis and particularly Brolin. Brolin is trying to make out like he's anti-Trump now, which may explain taking on a role with clear parallels, but Trump wasn't exactly a good guy while they were friends and Brolin doesn't exactly have a clean history.

Rian Johnson clearly has a deep understanding of detective stories and refuses to be hammered down to a format by fan expectations. Three hits, no notes, except I continue to be disappointed by his choosing to cast cancelled celebs, even if he uses it to subtly mock their attitudes.

I think treating an AI as a sentient being goes against the concept of the franchise a bit, but that in itself is intriguing.

It's a shame that the TV show got cancelled so soon as it's been the best exploration of the franchise ideas so far.

A Terminator coming back to the modern day and trying to take out an Elon Musk stand-in who is about to ruin the world with AI, but then questions whether the AI apocalypse is better than Trump, would be extremely interesting.

The Robocop reboot used modern effects and tech to do something visually stunning, but could not compete with the original story, which was perfect and still relevant.

There is, however, I think, room to do a higher-tech Terminator that plays on more time travel tropes.

22.02.2026 21:46 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Repeating the formula with a new flavour is all that's left for Terminator.

Leaving it is probably best as it hasn't done anything really well since 2, but I think it could do with a Robocop-esque reboot.

22.02.2026 21:46 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It's interesting.

Prey managed to repeat the formula, but with a new flavour and was exactly what I wanted.

Badlands was not what I wanted, but did open up the franchise to a way to tell an ongoing story without repeating itself.

Salvation tried to open up to an ongoing story and failed.
