If they were strong enough they could bring it to heel; or they would bring it peace. And if they weren't... The pups would be shown the true way of things.
One way or another, it would end with violence. For now, violence was all it knew.

Its mind made up, it continued its passage through the undergrowth. Padded footfalls silent as ever.
It would find its pack. It would fight the two-legs for them.

Of course it wanted the same. Why shouldn't it wish to be cared for. But to simply.... Submit. No. That was not for it.

It howled. Howled and howled and howled and howled. Its impotence and anger filling the air. And as the howls trailed off, the final notes were tinged with sadness. With longing.

The way they had simply bared their necks and rolled over for those two-legs. Without even a fight. It didn't know a word for what they did but the thought filled it with rage. Rage at how weak they were. Rage at how easily they did it. Rage at... itself... that it couldn't do the same.

Leather clad hunters, all flat-toothed smiles and honey-soaked words. They had dared to enter its forest, dared to approach its pack. Another angry growl. A pack so easily swayed with promises of warmth. Full bellies. "Care".

Those fools. Those short-fanged fools of pups. It growled and snapped at the air. It had ended with violence like it always did, because violence was all it knew. Violence was how it had lived so long. Didn't they know the way of things? Fools. All of them.

It trudged slowly through the undergrowth, padded footfalls silent on the grass. Shafts of moonlight speared through the canopy above and as it passed through them, they illuminated the horrid sight.
Claw and bite marks everywhere. Missing tufts of fur. Covered in blood - its own and its packmates'.
