So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

Tracking U.S. Military Killings in Boat Attacks In two months, the Trump administration has killed dozens of people it accused of smuggling drugs aboard boats. Here are the acknowledged strikes so far.

Updated: Our tracking guide with the Pentagon’s latest lethal strike on a boat suspected of drug trafficking. Three men were killed in the Caribbean Sea, Defense Secretary Hegseth posted last night, raising the toll to at least 70 killed in this bombing campaign. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

In New Jersey, a single mother struggled to figure out how to feed her two young sons with $50.
In Oklahoma, a 61-year-old woman questioned whether driving to a food pantry was worth the gas money.
And in Colorado, a woman grabbed food from a Walmart dumpster.

The Shutdown of U.S.A.I.D. Has Already Killed Hundreds of Thousands The short documentary β€œRovina’s Choice” tells the story of what goes when aid goes.

One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

who would have guessed that the dumbass who won the popular vote by a sliver because median voters just thought of him as President Low Prices Who Will Make Low Prices Comes Back in January would be eating shit like this, after not solving any problems and kidnapping many defenseless people for fun

This is going to get spun as a "thermostatic shift" chart, but it should be properly interpreted as a "information environment is broken" chart.

In 2024, voters didn't know what Trump would do, and so they shifted towards him based on vibes. Now they are finding out, and they hate it.

Zohran is stone cold man. Putting out an ad in Arabic after all the Islamophobic shit that’s been thrown his way? Pure swag.

Dems don’t need to copy his politics or even necessarily his campaign strategy, they need to learn how to grow a fucking spine.

Again, I can't stress this enough: Democratic elected officials are not constantly talking about climate change and trans rights.

They are constantly talking about "kitchen table issues."

Centrist pundits: Do a single fucking content analysis of their campaign speeches and materials, I beg you!

(4) Trump and the Republicans don't have an advantage over Democrats because they *better understand heartland Americans.*

They have an advantage over Democrats because they created their own universe of propaganda outlets, and then went out and bought all the mainstream outlets.

Duh.

The "Deciding To Win" centrists dismiss base mobilization, but the actual 2024 data shows: the more blue a place was in 2020, the lower its turnout was in 2024.

Swing voters weren't nearly as important as Dem-leaning irregular voters not voting at all. The base wasn't mobilized, so we lost.

How Kyrsten Sinema Bullied an Arizona City to Approve Her Client’s AI Data Center Just months after leaving the Senate, Democrats’ former corporate villain is raking in money while lobbying for the AI industry and proudly working "hand in glove with the Trump administration."

Kyrsten Sinema's brief post-Senate career highlights: launching a business lobbying group, forming an advocacy org for AI firms, and bullying an Arizona city to approve her client's AI data center.

The story I was born to write is now up at @zeteo.com zeteo.com/p/kyrsten-si...

Once again, one reason Trump says & does whatever he wants is bc every societal institution, including the media, has totally normalized & internalized the idea that the laws, the Constitution, & the international treaties we have signed & ratified simply don’t apply to this one guy. It’s maddening.

Around the state I’m hearing No Kings Day rallies today are as well or better-attended than in June.

I was in Mt. Pleasant around 12:30 and there were between (an estimated) 1,500 and 2,000 protestors lining the streets on one of the main thoroughfares into town.

In 1970s–early 1980s, US fed government invested massively in transit, including in research & development ⏬, but also on new transit systems in cities like DC, SF & Atlanta.

In certain years, federal spending on transit almost equaled that on highways. But that momentum stalled out under Reagan.
