I recently asked my neurosurgeon if I should go back to work after brain surgery. He asked what my job was; I replied "library clerk". I think he heard that as "librarian". Anyway, he said "Absolutely! We need our librarians now more than ever, don't we?" I loved that a neurosurgeon said that.

Also, my local library has ILL (Inter-Library Loan). Used to have to pay $1.00 for that service, but ever since Covid it's been free. Using that lets you get books that are outside your local library's network, which should give access to a wide-ranging selection.

How old are your books, generally? If they're from the 20th century, chances are the non-fics will have a Dewey # on the verso (other side) of the title page, if you want to go that way. It's an excellent system for classification by subject. And you'll find a lot of old (book) friends by sorting.

There is a Dewey number for fiction (in the 800s) but most libraries eschew that for simply alphabetizing by the author's last name.

I just finished reading "Murderland" by Caroline Fraser @calfraser.bsky.social It scared the bejesus out of me! I thought the ghost of Ted Bundy might break into my house and have his way with me. She makes very persuasive points about chemical poisoning, its effect on murderers, and on society.
