will my video game cartridges wear out in time like records do? sandy ressler unless you run over them with a truck, your cartridges should last forever. electronic chips have no moving parts, so they can't "wear out." the only problem you might have is damaging the board on the cartridge that touches your video game system. but coleco, for one, designs their carts to withstand 10,000 insertions. that's like plugging the game in three times a day, every day, for ten years. and if you can't beat the game by then, you should run it over with a truck.
