I embarked on a mission to answer the most important question in PC gaming: How tall is Garrett from Thief? Pinned size at last.

Thanks to @skacky.bsky.social for his fascinating, definitive answer to my incredibly dumb question: how tall is Garrett from Thief? www.pcgamer.com/games/i-emba...

Jett: The Far Shore uses language so beautifully and made ‘torpor’ a favourite word of mine.

I will always despair at the fact that ‘whoever did this…’ gains more traction as a post format than ‘this specific person made this…’

Credit should be cooler in spaces that supposedly value individual creators.

Jeremy Peel ON the history of videogames via Wolfenstein Interview with Jeremy Peel Few series have been reinvented as many times as Wolfenstein. More than once, it’s led the industry. And when it hasn’t, it’s acted as a mirror - reflecting the damaging des...

I interviewed a bunch of veterans of MachineGames and Arkane and Splash Damage in order to write a history of Wolfenstein for @ongamesjournal.bsky.social. And then the great Chris Donlan pulled an uno-reverse card and interviewed me about that history I’d written: on.games/pages/jeremy...

How long do we have to finish it, please and many thanks? Or is that spoilers?

one of the big underlying issues this article mentions (which I'm sure that most people don't realize) is that porn is actually a pretty BAD business for payment processors (because of the much higher rates of fraud and charge backs)

Some brilliant work from @jeremypeel.bsky.social here, looking into how Steam and Itch were forced to delist adult content, and what it means for developers.

What's going on with Steam and itch.io's crackdown on adult content? "The situation developed rapidly," said itch.io founder Leaf Corcoran, in what might turn out to be the understatement …

Getting my arms around a story this big and mercurial hasn’t been easy. I’m really grateful to Gil Tov-Ly and @radiatoryang.bsky.social for expanding my knowledge, and hope the result helps clarify a situation that’s been scary for a lot of creators and fans. www.gamesindustry.biz/whats-going-...

"Fiction tends to valorise the rebel, the unbowed individual who sparks revolution and casts down the corrupt institutions. Stories lionise the warrior, whose discipline and courage allows them to overcome any challenge and win the battle. Yet we know from reality that the outbreak of war - even those fought for truly worthy and necessary causes - is no reason for celebration. It is the last resort that condemns thousands of ordinary people to displacement or death. Whoever wins, civilians lose. Possibly, they lose everything."

The Sunday Papers The Sunday Papers is our weekly roundup of great writing about (mostly) videogames from across the web.

“Games are not exceptional. They are one artform among many and one small element of a full life, and they can be better understood and championed when placed in that wider context by people with full lives of their own.” www.rockpapershotgun.com/the-sunday-p...

I definitely think about the fact that goal-oriented ‘play’ (which I often love) is often antithetical to childlike play, which is freeform and made up as you go along.

Playing Sunless Skies today I was betrayed so brutally and profoundly by a character I thought I knew that I manipulated cloud saves across two platforms to bypass permadeath and save myself.

Now, with my soul stained, I’m gonna get that fucker.

Yeah it’s night and day each time a new release comes around. The pressure to pump new novelty nonsense onto the store murders any art style or character cohesion (as I know you’ve written about compellingly before)

These last few weeks of COD have really accelerated what was already a disastrous aesthetic free-for-all, you’re absolutely right. My group is regularly groaning at the sights and sounds ingame.

Thank you Will! I put that text in manually so it’s not a very sophisticated system - maybe I’ll have a go at rephrasing it if it’s confusing, or think of another way to get the message to free readers.

How to survive as an indie developer for 20 years "Size Five has always just plodded along without a colossal success, which is fine by me. I'm still here."

Woo, PCG published my interview with @danthat.bsky.social! He'll be embarrassed to hear it but this chat is stuffed with wisdom. For two decades Size Five has made games sustainably, frugally, experimentally and funnilyly. A lesson for a criminally wasteful industry. www.pcgamer.com/gaming-indus...

"Flanking is made difficult by dreaded tanks that don’t keep still. Hair-raisingly, the latter have to be approached directly from behind if you’re to pop a grenade in their hatch. Even in today’s gaming landscape, where the silent takedown has become a staple, it’s a rarity to stealth-kill a Panzer."
