Didn't read much beyond the 80s, but always loved the Helliconia series and other early SF. Started reading him because the NME said that a song on Closer was inspired by JG Ballard...then I read that Aldiss was a fellow new wave SF author (along with Ballard & Moorcock), so I raided the library...
