I’ve read some great books in '25, but few were written just for me like “Book and Dagger” by ‪@elysegraham.bsky.social‬.

One of the things about JD Vance is that he is completely 100% aware that what he is doing is evil and has made a deliberate, conscious choice to do evil to get power. He’s not self-deluded or dumb. He hasn’t drunk Kool-Aid. He’s decided to do evil for power.

Not that my endorsement carries any weight, but I read this last year, and thought it was an excellent look at a truly pernicious organization.

I disagree with the OP about Mississippi (it has words on it), but absolutely agree about Washington.

nothing has made me lose more hope for the future recently than seeing how many people who claim left wing politics were unable to pass the "is it ethical to stay on the nazi brainwashing site" test. smallest possible sacrifice being asked, and so many people can't even manage it.

I was not expecting this book to be as mind-expanding and, frankly, moving as it was. No offense intended to the authors, whose podcast I love(d), by that. It just took me by surprise, and turned out to be one of the best things I’ve read this year.
