We will need Nuremberg-like trials

the combat isn't my favorite, and I'm largely happy that I've been playing with the combat set to Story difficulty and Puzzles on Hard. I want to raise the latter to Lost in Fog on my next playthrough, but the puzzles have been fun so far, especially the Scarecrow puzzle as a standout.

I have issues with Silent Hill f, but by and large it's an EXCELLENT game. It feels authentically Silent Hill while doing its own thing. Hinako is an interesting protagonist, and the game tries to tangle with thoughts about gender and relationships through the lens of 1960s Japanese culture.

Genuine question: for those enthusiastically pushing AI tools into every part of our education systemβ€”what checks/guardrails are there around algorithmic biases like this?

it's weird at times, but the weirdness is definitely more the structure. There's pages and pages of footnotes, asides from the narrator, and so it's a lot of jumping around. It's like trying to read three books at a time. It's doable, but it feels like studying at times.

Big Tech Asked for Looser Clean Water Act Permitting. Trump Wants to Give It to Them New AI regulations suggested by the White House mirror changes to environmental permitting suggested by Meta and a lobbying group representing firms like Google and Amazon Web Services.

SCOOP from me: Trump's AI action plan released last week makes a specific set of recommendations around loosening Clean Water Act permits for data centers β€”Β recommendations mirrored in letters sent to the administration by Big Tech lobbyists earlier this year:

I started the book in 2019 and put it down because of that character and his narrative. But I've been pushing to read more lately, and I need to read something other than Richard Stark at least a little bit.

But this kind of horror--this cold, unfeeling, unknowable space--is exactly my shit. It's that empty kind of scary. It's great weird cosmic horror. The driven explorer, pushing deeper into something he probably can't come out of, is great, too. But then also there's Johnny Truant.

I'm trying to finally finish House of Leaves. I stopped reading it because the narrator sucks real hard. The fiction about the house itself and the Navidson family is super compelling, but Johnny is just the far end opposite. And in between that, 200 pages of footnotes.

The fact that itchio is looking into alternate payment options and talking about all this like an ongoing situation instead of being like "these are the new rules and always will be, fuck off" says a lot about how much they care about this. I know you want to yell at them but they're working hard

Wanted to revisit this briefly and reemphasize this point - I agree in principle with the idea that you shouldn't sell your work for cut-rate, unsustainable pay, but that mostly assumes that alternatives exist

Google’s AI Is Destroying Search, the Internet, and Your Brain Google’s AI Overview, which is easy to fool into stating nonsense as fact, is stopping people from finding and supporting small businesses and credible sources.

I bought a couch (My last one lasted 10 years). The bottom broke within 3 months. They tried to fix it, but failed. They replaced it. That one broke too. So I bought a totally different couch from a totally different retailer.

Guess what happened.

I just want to sit, you guys

So. Yeah. Go back and read that article, if you're feeling it. I think it's still a really good primer on a wildly complex subject, from both the points of view of the players and designers.

Taking pictures in Shadows (and other games with similarly detailed lighting) feels meaningful, because you're capturing something unique. It feels like taking photos for the beauty of it rather than just taking screenshots of a game that there are already tons of screenshots of.

But it's also just the seasons. Summer *looks* wet. Winter is too bright all the time. Sunlight through fall leaves feels cozy as fuck and a cup of hot tea sounds incredible.

Shoji doors affecting light and shadow and directly affecting gameplay. Using the decreased visibility of a heavy storm against enemies but still having to contend with it yourself. The work done in lighting directly affects gameplay.

Assassin's Creed Shadows became a quick favorite of the series for me not just because the ninja stuff works so well, but because the game is doing so many awesome things with lighting.

I remember watching sunlight on the ground through leaves, bouncing a flashlight off a mirror, and just playing with it in general. I was absolutely terrible in Physics in high school, but light and optics halfway made sense to me. In video games, playing with light is a frequent distraction.
