The skyline of Chicago in the background is framed by a view on the right-hand side of the image of the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse, taken from a mostly calm Lake Michigan with light waves under mostly clear skies with some wispy clouds.
A view of the Chicago skyline from a slightly wavy Lake Michigan, anchored by the Sears Tower on the left side of the image, the Aon Center and St. Regis in the middle, and the John Hancock Center on the right. There is a slight haze in the air from humidity that lends an atmospheric quality to the image.

Came here to say this. Republicans can go on news shows and repeatedly tell a bald-faced lie like this one and receive no pushback at all. Disgraceful. The corporate legacy media needs to go. They haven't just failed us; they are complicit.

Except they still got it wrong. Itβs not a βlawβ; a law is passed by Congress and signed by the president. Itβs in the Constitution which makes it not just a law but a fundamental right β hence birthRIGHT citizenship.

pretty weird how there's always billion dollars just lying around whenever ICE needs concentration camps but there's never any money when children need healthcare or a simple school lunch. oh well just one of those things I guess

When the history books are written on this era, one of the defining themes will be how our institutions didn't just fail us; they were active participants in our demise as a country, and the corporate media is a veritable case study on this point.

The only conclusion one can draw from this is that Fox News finds its lies to be far, far more profitable than $787M or whatever amount they end up needing to fork over for any present or future defamation suits.

The Ku Klux Klan Acts (passed in 1870 & 1871 to protect 14th amend rights) were particularly focused on masked gunmen who violated the civil rights of Black people. We should remember this history when masked law enforcement ofcrs are deployed in our communities.

If you think this is something new, the first internment camp they sent me and my family to in 1942 was a barbed wire prison called Rohwer. It was located in the swamps of Arkansas.

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds.
He was conducting routine immigration court work, escorting individuals from hearings.
He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights.
This is political intimidation.
