One of biggest personal frustrations with the “blogs replaced journalism” transition with online writing is it gave rise to this particular class of writer (Yglesias, Singal, Weiss, Sullivan) who could easily say who they hate in four words, but instead create a career-long milieu of deniable hate.

It has been really jarring to know things like “we’re living in an active authoritarian state” and “we’re enabling an ongoing genocide” and then interact with folks every day who literally have no idea about those things, but it’s instructive because that is the info reality for majority of people!

Cory Booker Has Been Bashing Trump on Senate Floor for 17 Straight Hours Sen. Cory Booker, Democrat from New Jersey, has been bashing Donald Trump on the Senate floor for 17 straight hours.

The longest filibuster in history of the U.S. Congress was conducted in 1957 by S.C. Senator Strom Thurmond, who spent 24 hours and 18 minutes attempting to stop the passage of the Civil Rights Act.

Cory Booker just crossed hour 19 and is still going strong.

They're lying to you about transgender women and girls in sports

They're lying to you about transgender women and girls in sports Michelle R. Martinelli For The Win

They’re lying about transgender people in this world. They’re lying about what LGBTQ+ inclusion in society really means, and they’re lying about trans people in sports. They’re lying about a “transgender cult” and “transgender insanity,” about teachers indoctrinating kids with “transgender ideology” and about “making mice transgender.”

Right-wing activists, anti-trans bigots, many politicians, the president — they’re lying to you about many things but especially trans women and girls in sports. They’re lying about transgender athletes supposedly ruining women’s sports, and they’re lying about this being a ubiquitous “problem.”

They are deliberately and strategically lying about trans folks’ lives, about trans athletes and about their own disingenuous motivations for pushing these lies. They don’t care because they keep doing it.

Worse, it’s working.

They're lying about trans people, especially trans women and girls in sports, probably, in part, because the actual data doesn't support their arguments.
Yet several states have their own bans against trans athletes competing in sports consistent with their gender identity, despite expert estimates of fewer than 100 trans high school athletes nationwide. In 2022, Utah's Republican governor, Spencer Cox, vetoed an anti-transgender bill - it was eventually overruled by the legislature - and outlined his rationale. Along with the high suicide rates for trans youth, he noted that of 75,000 high school athletes in the state, four identified as trans and just one student was playing girls' sports. A whole state bill targeting four athletes, but really, one.

I can't remember the last time I saw an article just focus on this. Not that they've bent the truth or misrepresented a few facts a little, but that every single solitary thing that the GOP says on the topic is a stone cold lie with absolutely no basis in reality.

Inside Elon Musk’s ‘Digital Coup’ Musk’s loyalists at DOGE have infiltrated dozens of federal agencies, pushed out tens of thousands of workers, and siphoned millions of people’s most sensitive data. The next step: Unleash the AI.

Today we're publishing a monster feature that dives deep into the initial six weeks over Elon Musk's government takeover. Our entire newsroom came together to help make this story happen. Read this culmination of our blood, sweat, and tears:

Again this is why you talk openly about things you like and enjoyed and feel others may like as well. Stop just sharing only what you hated cos it’s easy engagement but put the effort into sharing what is good cos it does make a difference.

Creating a dynamic relationship system in Scarlet Hollow In our first run at figuring out the relationship system for Scarlet Hollow (play Episode 1 for free on Steam), we tried a kind of Dragon…

Now that Scarlet Hollow's back, it's once again time to talk about its relationship system.

We were frustrated with the standard approval binary most RPGs use, so we decided to track a huge amount of info to make characters feel more dynamic.

One thing ingrained in me studying Latin and English Literature at an early age for so many years is there are just no new problems. Every millennia mostly deals with similar people having similar problems of individualism, organization, scarcity, cooperation, competition, and power.

18F is an important part of recent American government history and people should know about it.

This is just a huge blindspot for economic freedom and liberty beat folks in general - there’s this culturally entrenched belief that fair competition and mobility is a natural, default state. A hesitancy to think of their principles (good principles) as artificial.

I don’t think Bezos intends to be successful in his stated goal, so it’s a moot point, but theoretically I don’t think he is equipped to produce an Opinion section on free markets and personal liberties. Would he defend the government’s obvious role in securing those principles? Doubtful!

Read this thread. Federal workers - like all the workers the modern republicans have attacked over the last decade (doctors, teachers, journalists) work hard for little pay and lesser accolades.

Yeah I think it’s the type of twist you’d see in a S3/S4 of Westworld (not good, too mystery box-y). I hope they don’t go in this direction, but I could see the temptation narratively

This is why my tinfoil hat theory is it’s a severed company town. The world is too weird, there’s too many little slip-ups, and the ease with which they lied to innies with the fake newspaper talking about worldwide praise for their revolution at the beginning of this season…

Samus Aran maroons on a densely populated city planet, and must bounty hunt like a neo-noir detective against a backdrop painted with the colors of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Cool World, and old school Men in Black (the canceled Prey 2, but more campy and colorful)

It’s literally his one trick and he has done it so many times we’re all sick of it. All his fans have started emulating this exact adversarial interrogation management line too, just as everyone in tech thought they could emulate Jobs’ success by being a self-centered asshole. It’s so dumb.

Elon Musk’s Business Empire Scores Benefits Under Trump Shake-Up (Gift Article) Government investigations into Mr. Musk’s companies are stalling amid President Trump’s firings and Biden administration resignations.

He had 6 companies facing 32 investigations from 11 government agencies. Only a miracle could save his net worth and then…November 5th 2024.

Now the rest is history. Or some would say, oligarchy.

Inspiring to see hundreds turn out to protest NYU cutting off care to young trans people. Coming together to hold institutions accountable when they preemptively comply with fascist initiatives is a pretty good way to fight the overwhelm.

Jake/Grey Alien is a true “working indie”- thoughtful, helpful, and tirelessly releasing games for decades that keep the lights on in a tough, changing market.

Card (Balatro) and indie horror (Buckshot Roulette) are hot- they are perfectly positioned for a big hit and they’ve certainly earned it!

This is a great point! Even the Stormtrooper being the most egregious, replace the helmet and throw a shader on it and you’ve got a great D1-harkening “simple and sci-fi” armor aesthetic.
