I wonder though if the blip of time where it wasn't this bad is the exception rather than the rule. Because before Reynolds v. Sims and the VRA, it was much worse than it is now, almost by definition.

My only quibble with this article is that rule of law has long been dead, though in different ways (think policing of communities of color for one stark example).

This is right. Everyone saying "X is a threat to the rule of law" is just wrong. Rule of law is dead.

I should just give my students this article on the first day of constitutional law and end the course there.

This is going to ruin so many cis women's lives. They had to end it in the 2000's because it resulted in women having their lives destroyed, partners leaving them, family disowning them etc. After some high profile suicides and attempts , they had to stop.

NEW: 18,500 children have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza.

The Washington Post has just published every single known name.

A seminal moment.

And teaching Congressional powers? Feels anachronistic to think Congress does anything other than exactly what the President commands.

CORRECTION: the starving, emaciated child featured in a photograph yesterday had the pre-existing condition of being a Palestinian living in Gaza. Our apologies for omitting that key fact that shows the child is actually to blame.

age verification? My first "cool" show was seeing the nobody-act Nine Inch Nails open for Jesus & Mary Chain and then get booed off the stage because Trent Reznor was super drunk and no one came to watch synth pop, we all came to see fuzzed out guitar.

Most reporting is just not up to the task of registering both that 1) the White House is *attacking* universities *as institutions* 2) the White House is working *with* universities’ boards to achieve *common goals* for remaking and weakening those institutions

Abortion Shield Laws in Action In 2022, when Roe v Wade was on the cusp of being overturned, we wrote that β€œthe interjurisdictional abortion wars are coming.” They have now arrived.<br

To be clear, this will fail. @greerdonley.bsky.social @rebouche.bsky.social and I explain here why.

My "favorite" Kessler "fact check" was when he called Bernie Sanders a liar for correctly noting that "Three people in this country own more wealth than the bottom half of America." Kessler's argument was that it doesn't count because "people in the bottom half have essentially no wealth."

We've got to take the win when we can!

This is because of public opinion and pressure. We're winning on this one. Just because he didn't use the language of "I'll never ever ever do anything to abortion pills" doesn't mean what he's saying and doing so far isn't clearly a win for access.

28.07.2025 14:32 β€” πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Because, for now (and yes, this can change!), they haven't changed abortion pill regulation at all. And they've told us repeatedly they won't.

This is important to repeat over and over so folks know they can get pills and access remains. Otherwise people who need pills get the wrong message.

So maybe we, the prochoice side of things, need to flip our comms from emphasizing their threats and power and instead constantly repeating their statements on not changing pills and holding them to those statements....

They've been pushed and prodded by antiabortion groups and politicians. Repeatedly. And the most they've done is say "we'll study it."

But have changed nothing. And said, repeatedly, they're changing nothing....

28.07.2025 14:25 β€” πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

But have done nothing on abortion pills. When it has been super low hanging fruit for them. They control the FDA and they can change things pretty easily. Yes, it would be challenged, but they get a big benefit of the doubt from courts....
