I wonder though if the blip of time where it wasn't this bad is the exception rather than the rule. Because before Reynolds v. Sims and the VRA, it was much worse than it is now, almost by definition.

01.08.2025 19:03 β π 60 π 14 π¬ 2 π 0My only quibble with this article is that rule of law has long been dead, though in different ways (think policing of communities of color for one stark example).
31.07.2025 16:38 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0This is right. Everyone saying "X is a threat to the rule of law" is just wrong. Rule of law is dead.
I should just give my students this article on the first day of constitutional law and end the course there.

The WaPa headline says: 60,000 Gazans were killed. 18,500 of them were children. These are some of their names. Then follows an enormous list of small print names
Thousands of small print names interspersed with some photos of some of the child victims
NEW: 18,500 children have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza.
The Washington Post has just published every single known name.
A seminal moment.
And teaching Congressional powers? Feels anachronistic to think Congress does anything other than exactly what the President commands.
30.07.2025 15:39 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0CORRECTION: the starving, emaciated child featured in a photograph yesterday had the pre-existing condition of being a Palestinian living in Gaza. Our apologies for omitting that key fact that shows the child is actually to blame.

28.07.2025 14:48 β π 5596 π 1325 π¬ 97 π 108We've got to take the win when we can!
This is because of public opinion and pressure. We're winning on this one. Just because he didn't use the language of "I'll never ever ever do anything to abortion pills" doesn't mean what he's saying and doing so far isn't clearly a win for access.
Because, for now (and yes, this can change!), they haven't changed abortion pill regulation at all. And they've told us repeatedly they won't.
This is important to repeat over and over so folks know they can get pills and access remains. Otherwise people who need pills get the wrong message.
/end
So maybe we, the prochoice side of things, need to flip our comms from emphasizing their threats and power and instead constantly repeating their statements on not changing pills and holding them to those statements....
28.07.2025 14:27 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0They've been pushed and prodded by antiabortion groups and politicians. Repeatedly. And the most they've done is say "we'll study it."
But have changed nothing. And said, repeatedly, they're changing nothing....
But have done nothing on abortion pills. When it has been super low hanging fruit for them. They control the FDA and they can change things pretty easily. Yes, it would be challenged, but they get a big benefit of the doubt from courts....
