The far right aren’t bothered about the finer points of asylum rules they simply want NO people of colour to be in their field of vision at any time, and Shabana that means you. Trying to capitulate like this achieves NOTHING other than contributing more to the climate of hate.

I'd love to "debate" why their MEPs voted with the far right to allow migrants drown in the Med, but no-one in Fine Gael ever seems to want to talk about that.

What still shocks is the sheer vindictiveness and distortion of the language. Here, asylum seekers are classed implicitly as illegal migrants who've been getting a "golden ticket" as if they were lottery winners, and will now be punished with a 20 year wait for settlement, if not evicted first.

The white paper was my last straw (not that I can vote but you know what I mean), I used to think I’d vote for a “good” labour person, cuz there are folks I do like. But as soon as I saw the phrase “incalculable damage”, I was done. The truly good ones would leave, no more excuses or enabling.

Attending my first ever ILPA meeting, as I am now the leader of my firm’s ILPA group. Exciting…(genuinely excited for this!)

Doesn’t help that my work is in immigration, I can’t escape the HO and the HO have been so horrendous since spring, just nasty stuff every day. And it’s a constant thing of “they could easily do this to me too, when my visa is up for extension next year”.

I’m really starting to realize just how much the anxiety of not knowing has impacted my mental health. Ive gained 9kg since the white paper, it’s not the only reason (work and a personal thing too) but that I think was the catalyst. I was keeping work and the other thing together until that came.

I have woken up at 430 and all I can think about now is the overwhelming amount of work waiting for me so I should just get up and go, despite not having had enough sleep and the alarm won’t go off for another hour+.

Sigh. Again, may this era ebb. It’s been 11 months and it’s just getting worse 😭
