"A 1980s style pre-woke progressive" steeped in the "rules based international order" which only became a touchstone idea in the 2010s.

The idea that he'd be most comfortable in the anti apartheid movement also hilarious.

Tbf "More right wing than Thatcher" describes every PM since Thatcher, including the Labour ones.

Every one of them built on and deepened her reforms, none of them rolled them back. He could be the most left prime minister since Thatcher and still be more right wing than her.

(you're right though)

I need everyone to know that on the crochet subreddit the mods made a big post about how they're taking a week off because there was too much fighting/political posts. so there's currently no mods on r/crochet and people are being absolutely insane

Periodic reminder that what's marketed as 'youth social media bans' actually amounts to requiring people to provide personally identifying information in order to access whatever content a given government disfavours.

McFadden, 58, is a veteran of Tony Blair's era, working on the 1997 election campaign alongside Peter Mandelson and Alastair Campbell, becoming the prime minister's political secretary in 2002, before entering parliament in 2005 as MP for Wolverhampton South East, a seat with one of the highest
levels of deprivation in the country. When Mandelson, by then a peer, was made business secretary in 2008, McFadden was his deputy, running parts of the department and
representing it in the House of Commons. "Pat has seen it all," he says. "He is a walking encyclopedia of political and policy knowledge, and experience in government." Mandelson describes his former No 2 as "pure New Labour", adding: "He's solid, hard-
nosed, centre-left. He lives and breathes it.

Whilst weโ€™re reflecting on Mandelsonโ€™s remarkably enduring influence on the current Labour Party, & thinking about further questions to be asked, I hope weโ€™ll not forget Pat McFadden, surely a likely conduit for Mandelsonโ€™s advice, & repeatedly described as one of Starmerโ€™s most trusted allies.

Six Palestine Action activists were cleared today of aggravated burglary over a protest at an Israeli weapons firm in 2024. The jury also cleared three defendants of violent disorder and failed to reach a verdict on a GBH charge โ€“ charges that are the basis of the group's labelling as "terrorists"

Wasn't there a guy who tried that, and literally everyone in the party and the media (including the New Statesman) screamed at full volume until that brief aberration was resolved, putting the shockingly corrupt Sensible Moderates back in charge?
