Glynn Maxwell's "on Poetry" is a pretty great guide for all kinds of poets! I also really reccomend The Craft: A Guide to Making Poetry Happen in the 21st Century published by Nine Arches.

John Boyne (self-described TERF, author of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, guy who accidentally put Legend of Zelda lore in a historical novel because his research stopped at "top hit on google") is the first author I think of when I need to remind myself that this business is not a meritocracy.

If you have the self-awareness to briefly wonder if this was you, it was not.

I don't like to talk much about Braag submissions whilst they're in progress, but we recieved a submission this round that has managed to be offensive to basically every single kind of human being that has ever lived. If it wasn't beyond objectionable in every way, it'd almost be impressive.

I’m so thrilled to share that I’ll be guest editing for Carmen et Error this August! I want to read your offbeat and speculative tiny poems and stories. Sub guidelines here: carmenerror.com?page_id=19 and more on what I’m looking for in this thread ⬇️

every time we do a ubi study it comes back like 99% of people have a greater quality of life and contribute more to economy numbers, and a week later there's a new nber paper that's like what if we legalized hunting humans for sport.

With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

home by the rotting sea is deindexed & now in breach of the updated guidelines of itch, not because it's porn (though my porn comics are flagged also), but because the story explores sexual assault. you should care about porn as well, of course, but we intuitively get the flagrant wrongness of this

Something id love to do one day is have a collaborator for my weird and indulgent northern faerie noir and give it it's own website. Have a bizzaro world building/genre bending project that's for me + a handful of people

Got a rejection from a lot agency (which is OK!) but they waited *exactly* year and a day to reject my fairytale folklore manuscript. Which I can only assume happened because my life works according to fairytale rules now.

I think about this drawing by Kate Beaton a lot for reasons which I must emphasize are completely unrelated to the current political climate.

I'd stick a ton of shade-loving ferns or sedge grass in there. Carex pendula adores water and shade and it grows large but not massive.

Friends, I wrote a piece on poet Laura Gilpin, who died of glioblastoma in 2006.

She is best known for β€œThe Two-Headed Calf.”

With gratitude to the Poetry Foundation for allowing me to try to restore this remarkable healthcare practitioner/poet’s legacy.
