In theory it shouldn’t be a huge issue since (for typically developing students) the reading skills are in place by then. If you’re concerned about your child’s learning/progress though I’d always recommend sharing your concerns with their teacher. As a parent you’re the expert on your kid!

2/ so the only thing that would need to be taught would be the specifics of English phonics (which would come more quickly if kids have the rest in place).

1/ The theory is that the majority of the reading skills (phonological awareness, the alphabetic principle, being able to blend and segment phonemes, etc) transfer if students are already reading fluently in French.

FI teacher here. Resources just aren’t available in French (yet, I hear they’re being worked on). Hopefully more evidence-based strategies will come out soon for immersion.

Hi! I’m a teacher (in Canada) and just read your article. I wonder if you considered what effect is had by who presents the MH lessons. As teachers, we’re supposed to be experts in teaching *a lot* of different subjects. I wonder if teacher unfamiliarity with teaching MH has an effect here?

Oil, minerals, and shipping lanes

I know some teachers have been advocating through annual council to switch the Easter Monday holiday to Eid. Unfortunately that has gotten … nowhere.
