The Greens amendment would have seen all workers under 18 have the right to superannuation contributions, regardless of how many hours they worked.

In the remote Western Australian community where Angus lives, households don't receive electricity bills.
Instead, they must prepay for credit — similar to topping up a mobile phone.

As CEO of MHLEPQ, I'm clear the proposed power to cancel Centrelink payments based on an outstanding warrant is a dangerous overreach. It ties social security to policing, erodes the presumption of innocence and harms the most marginalised.

That’s by design. Billionaires monetize rage bait, and it has the added bonus of keeping us fighting with each other while they rob us blind. But one day soon, all the anger from the culture wars they’ve cultivated to distract us from the class war will be turned on them.

14m ago 11.39 AEDT Cait Kelly Cait Kelly Centrelink has been issuing payment suspension notices to jobseekers and those on disability support pensions at a rate of more than five a minute, new analysis suggests, amid concerns over the legality of the troubled system. In total, government data collated by the Antipoverty Centre shows there were 2,683,605 suspension actions between June 2024 and July 2025. They have taken place under Centrelink’s mutual obligations regime, which is meant to ensure recipients are actively looking and preparing for work. If they do not fulfil activities – such as completing job applications or attending meetings with job providers – their payments can be suspended. According to the Antipoverty Centre, the data shows this is still frequently occurring, despite new rules offering a five-day grace period for people to contact their job provider before their payments are blocked. However, the majority of suspensions are lifted before a person’s income is impacted.

The report found that about 68,500 people annually require sexual assault support services in Australia but about 23,000 are left with unmet support needs.
The funding shortfall for support services is $80 million - or 0.02% of the $368 billion the Commonwealth gov is spending on 11 submarines
Everybody’s Home National Spokesperson Maiy Azize said: “This is a shocking and dangerous proposal. Cutting off someone’s Centrelink payment means cutting off their rent, their groceries, and their lifeline. It will push people into homelessness before they’ve even had a chance to defend themselves in court. These changes mean that someone could lose their home because of an accusation that later turns out to be wrong. Once you’ve lost your home, there’s no easy way back. No one should be made destitute or homeless before they’ve been found guilty of anything. Using the threat of homelessness as a form of punishment is unconscionable. The government should withdraw this amendment immediately.”
