Friends, I have created a Starter Pack of economics journals (and working paper series) active on Bluesky. Hope this is useful for academic, policy, and industry economists alike. #Econsky Please let me know if there are any that I missed!

"Dow 50,000" Sound Nice. Until Justin Wolfers Shows You That U.S. Markets Are Coming 21st Out of 23.
What does “Dow 50,000” actually tell you—anything about the economy, or just that a number got bigger? Dow 50,000 is a milestone, not a measurement. The level of the Dow is basically arbitrary: it’s… "Dow 50,000" Sound Nice. Until Justin Wolfers Shows You That U.S. Markets Are Coming 21st Out of 23.

The Dow was at 43,488 when Trump took office. It just hit 50,000.

So if you had invested $43,488 in the US, you would now have $50,000. But if you had invested the same amount in the rest of the world, you would now be worth $60,000.

18 Days, 20 Lives: New Yorkers Who Didn’t Survive the Cold Freezing days and nights claimed the lives of a grandmother, a dancer, a dispatcher and a man who lived among a colony of feral cats.

Read it all. These were humans who deserved dignity.

Then watch the latest episode of The Pitt.

From Harry Bernstein’s 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship biography: “I have proven with all this that age need not be a barrier to a useful and creative life. I hope to be able to reach one hundred. I hope to write more books. But with all of this I will never lose the memory of the one thing that gave me the strength and inspiration to accomplish what I have done thus far, my wife Ruby. Memories are supposed to dim with the passing of years. But my memory of her grows richer and deeper each year. I can still see her as vividly as I always did, her lovely, oval face with the smile always on it, her soft, dark eyes looking up at me with such love in them. Her presence will always be there with me until I too am no longer here.”

Ahead of Valentine’s Day, I’m thinking about this 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship bio from Harry Bernstein, who published his first novel at age 96, which was written shortly after the death of his wife of almost 70 years.

I’m crying, you’re crying, we’re all crying.

When he gave the Grammy to that young boy who made everyone think of Liam…even if that wasn’t actually Liam, it was just the perfect way of cutting through all the bullshit.

Every kid impacted by this administration’s cruelty is another Liam.

Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous

THIS. This is why Bad Bunny evoked power distribution in the show. Tremendous racism against PR during 45
