let me note that one of the actual tests here is going to be 'what do people pushing these ideas want for their own children' and I will bet you a lot of money that the answer is 'the elite university model of Harvard et al' not 'learning through AI slop'

He does have a point but yes, I would agree he is having a tough time articulating it.

I just don't see this story so long as the real big playersβ€”Google, Microsoft, and Metaβ€”are printing money with ads.

Discussed the use of AI with a colleague who was quite bullish on it. His example was using it to extract descriptive metadata for a language we have no expertise in.

β€œHow did you verify it?” I asked.

β€œI asked a friend who can read X if it looked right.”

Ie pure form measurement, not content.

If grocery prices had gone down or voters started saying they trusted Harris on grocery prices, the result would not be Harris walking away with the election but the media choosing in a different bad-for-Harris economic issue as the number one issue of the campaign.

People often make this point without the counterpoint that legislators in those states do not care about or need those affected voters to win reelection.

There was speculation during the DOGE days about Miller and Musk having some tryst, and a matador is the guy directing the bull. Make of that what you will.

Just to be blunt, if you want Wired and 404 and The Verge to employ reporters who understand the memes on bullet casings and can connect them to gaming culture while having the legal and support resources to deal with waves of harassment when we do it… you have to subscribe and pay for the work

The NYT reported that he did indeed turn himself in at the urging of his family. Let this be a lesson to everyone in this thread about jumping to wild, mean conclusionsβ€”you are all contributing to the BlueMAGA stereotype of BlueSky.

This is such a casually evil, alienating statement. No family wants this for their kid, let alone one that wouldβ€”rightlyβ€”turn their son in for a murder like this, and I'm certain they are suffering to an almost unimaginable degree, one they'll never get over.

Honestly it would have. He got the kind of weak pushback that actually further solidifies wrong beliefs, because people think they’ve heard and refuted the counterargument. A helluva lot of his interviews functioned that way.

people seem really confused about racial categories maybe we should have some educational programs to teach how these historically constructed categories structure our entire society in insidious ways we could even do programming in workplaces to improve how people communicate with each other

Commenters on this expressing surprise at seeing "a few unveiled women." Ignorance and propaganda prevail. (It's far from a panacea, obvs, but any first-hand account will tell you the regime is currently unable to enforce restrictions on the younger generation and isn't particularly trying.)

I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving.

There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later.

They. Are. Breaking. The. Law.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacyβ€”it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence.

They are in charge.
