Welcome from neighboring RI!

End of the Proposition speech that Lerner wrote for Burton for the Act 1 curtain of Camelot.
Ramadan Mubarak. May it be a blessed time for you and all who celebrate.
18.02.2026 02:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I remember starting it when I was too young, about eleven, and being horrified by the wrist on the glass, but oddly pleased by seventy times seven, and the first of the seventy-first. I had to behave during sermons, and I think it resonated with me.
18.02.2026 02:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not in my day - late 70s. When registration for the draft came back in 1980, Swarthmore refused to inform the government of which students had not registered. Our federal funds were threatened but not actually withdrawn, as I remember.
17.02.2026 02:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Setting periods inside quotation marks:
My favorite Rodgers and Hammerstein song is "If I Loved You."
is an inarguable point of American prose style.
No "yes, but," no "wellllllll," no hemming, no hawing. That's where they go. Inside.
IKR? Perhaps the Defense Department had Quaker schools on the no-fly list already.
14.02.2026 23:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0How is Swarthmore, the Little Kremlin on the Crum, not on the list? I am insulted.
14.02.2026 23:00 β π 3 π 2 π¬ 2 π 0My bad, I looked in the thread but missed it.
14.02.2026 01:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Does Korvettes count?
"Don't get lost at Korvettes,
Don't get signed by the Mets,
Don't give up cigarettes,
Come back to me."
If his name is Carl I think it's okay.
12.02.2026 21:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My parents had our dog babysit my toddler brothers in our yard when they were about 2 and 1. I asked her about it years later and she said the dog would have had the arm off anyone who tried to touch them.
I knew that dog. She was right. Autre temps, etc.
I read Gatsby after reading the Mad magazine satire of the movie, and I think Mad was better. But I'm not much of a Fitzgerald fan, probably from having read Zelda at a tender age.

PBS was a lifeline for those of us growing up in small town Midwest.
Beautiful and heartbreaking. Thank you.

24.01.2026 18:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My god, I got the cocoa for Christmas before the 11 year old was born, apparently - 2013.
Still tastes good, on the obviously rare occasions I drink cocoa.
Glad you will have coffee this weekend - we have Arctic cold tomorrow (up to -20 wind chill) and then snow Sunday, between 12 and 17 inches. According to the iphone weather app, anyway. I'm thinking of branching out into hot cocoa - mine is only 12 years old.

19.01.2026 16:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You could try what Peter Cook said when invited to dine with the Duke and Duchess of York - paraphrasing because I'm too lazy to look it up:
I'm sorry, I find I will be watching television that evening.
