Really excited to be back in my home away from home, Berlin, for my first conference in Germany:

"Life at the Edge: The nuclear envelope in nucleocytoplasmic transport and genome organisation"

Really looking forward to it!

Hyped to be moving to the Blizard Institute @qmul.bsky.social in the Autumn.

As part of an exciting new development in infection research within the Blizard, I’ll be a Group Leader, Academic Lead of the Blizard Advanced Light Microscopy (BALM) Facility and soon take up a Senior Lectureship.

I cannot believe I didn't post about dark sectioning! I can only blame my crazy travel schedule. Check out this amazing tool for background removal in fluorescence microscopy. An important new concept, not 'just another' denoising algorithm.

Measuring plasma membrane fluidity using confocal microscopy - Nature Protocols Membrane fluidity is a crucial feature in understanding cellular physiology. This protocol describes a robust pipeline for measuring plasma membrane fluidity using confocal imaging and new environment...

We wrote a protocol to quantify plasma membrane fluidity using a confocal microscope 🔬
Hopefully those interested in measuring membrane biophysical properties in live cells find it useful.
We also provide an ImageJ/Fiji tool to make the analysis as easy as possible.

Expansion microscopy identifies novel asymmetric pore proteins. The images show proExM of cell lines co-expressing epitope-tagged versions of NUP76 (top; magenta), NUP149 (middle; magenta), or NUP140 (bottom; magenta) in combination with NUP110 (green). Images were deconvolved (20 iterations for NUP149 and NUP76; 60 iterations for NUP140) and single planes of the nuclei are shown.

How is transport directionality achieved through the #trypanosome nuclear pore complex? The current model is symmetrical, but this study reveals that the trypanosome #NuclearPore has an asymmetrical architecture, with conserved hubs that direct mRNA transport 🧪 @plosbiology.org plos.io/3Q36QV2
