tryhard: <defaulting to they/them until conclusively told otherwise> (it's not 2018, stop)
problematic: <defaulting to they/them for ppl with known binary pronouns> (many such cases)

"not assuming" becomes "everybody is they/them" which doesn't seem helpful
It feels weirdly invalidating when used in a targeted way (surprise! you actually did assume!), and when used for EVERYONE kinda seems like non-binary erasure; removing meaning from pronouns thru genericization
